Chatting with NTY Bestseller Todd McCaffrey

I’ve wanted to do a fireside chat, casual talk show for a long time, and on Saturday, I’m going to be doing my first test. The concept is Geekchats, where I talk with fellow geeks and industry professionals about, well, geek stuff. Baseball is included in the literal definition of “geek stuff” because if you haven’t seen how intense the sabremetric nerds like me drill down into the math of baseball, you aren’t living. 

This first geekchat is going to be an awesome one with my stellar friend and wonderful author, Todd McCaffrey, best known for his work on the Dragonriders of Pern series. This is so cool and I really would like to give an internet round of applause for Todd for being willing to try this wacky idea with me.

I first met Todd in 2012. I’d been a rabid fan of both him and his mother for awhile, really jazzed on the book Dragon’s Fire in particular. I’ve been known to use the username “Kindan” on different message boards because of that book. Earlier that year, I’d read Todd’s early output of his solo book, City of Angels, which is very different — a phenomenal thriller about an AI gone loose in the interwebs. I saw some typos in the kindle version and I took it upon myself to log all of them and send them back to Mr. McCaffrey for repair.

For whatever reason, he still talks to me! What a saint!

Since then, we’ve appeared at conventions together over the years, kept in touch, gone to Disneyland, talked about the far too many books we’ve bought. So it seemed like a natural place to start to bring some Geekchats to my dear readers! Though we’re both not film experts by any means, technology low, I think we have a lot of good natural content when talking together, so it should be a lot of fun.

Both of our recent works follow Artificial Intelligence and use them as main characters, so we’re going to focus the discussion mainly on that, and perhaps take some questions (Shout out to the Dragonriders of Pern Facebook Group, I know you’re there!).  If you want to read about our takes on AIs, you can find them at:
