Yes, imagine me saying “Hi There!” in that voice.
I’m Jon Del Arroz! You might have heard of me from such blogs as: Superversive SF, Nick Cole, Declan Finn, or Vox Day.
You may have also heard of me from such blogs as Mary Robinette Kowal and Jennifer Brozek.
All those people love me! Confusing, ain’t it? I chalk it up to my ability to be so charming and such a fun science fiction writer that I can bring everyone together. I imagine the latter two will disavow me if asked. I voted wrong, after all and that’s intolerable, despite my utter professionalism when working with them.
Before I get any further, if you really really really want to help and have already shared/bought, please take a moment to vote for Star Realms: Rescue Run for Best Military Science Fiction and Fantasy for the Dragon Award. You can do so here: http://application.dragoncon.org/dc_fan_awards_nominations.php
You may want to know a little more about me if you’ve been following the last day’s storyline of my convention speaking blackballing, checking out my books and the like all over the interwebs today. I’ve been writing for 15 years, starting with comics, game flavor, short fiction and culminating in 4 novels of which I hope to share many more with you.
“But wait, Jon, your Amazon page says you only have one book.”
That’s right, I have three unpublished. And now that I’m free of the shackles of wanting validation from the death star that is BIG PUBLISHING, I’m free to bring those to you soon. I’m lining up editors and cover art to self-publish these as soon as humanly possible.
You’ve probably checked out my current book, Star Realms: Rescue Run today or yesterday (thank you!). It’s a fun space opera romp that I wrote to try to bring people back to that feeling they got from the great fiction days of Star Wars, Lois Bujold’s or Elizabeth Moon’s early work. I love that kind of adventure, and I hope you will too. Rescue Run has been compared to Rogue One (mine came out first!) but with the exception that my book has much better characters and actually have a spark of romance between them.
What else have I got to offer you? Here’s what I’ve got in my pipeline:
- A hard sci-fi novella about bringing baseball to the moon.
- My own space opera universe with really cool alien species, an epic war and an even more epic romance!
- A YA Steampunk novel. Super fast paced and fun.
- A science fiction novel set in the same universe as my space opera, but very much more in the realm of classic science fiction. Think Heinlein’s The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress mashed with Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonsdawn.
Not sure what order they’ll be coming out in. I also have a graphic novel about a hero and villain in love called “Flying Sparks”. The story there is meant to be 3 graphic novels long, but I need to raise some money for the art on it. It’s been hailed in its webcomic form as “the kind of stuff that made me fall in love with early Marvel comics” by comicbookresources.com. I would love to finish this one day, but art is very expensive so it’s on hold until I can fund it properly and bring you an excellent quality book.
I’ve got a a lot going on, and I hope to deliver some great content to you through my books, this blog and also through a GabTV show during its beta test, tentatively called “The Jon Del Arroz Science Fiction Power Hour” – which will be 15 min – 30 min long talking about sci-fi and geek culture.
That’s gonna be a lot of content in the next few months here, I am aware. I’m busy and I’ll be productive as long as you keep reading. Thank you for being there! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. I will do my best to reply to everyone personally, and if I miss you, it’s not on purpose!
Social media wise, I’m: @tbr_otomo on twitter, Jon Del Arroz on facebook and @otomo on Gab. For those commenting, be patient. I’m getting flooded with requests today and I do have comments on approval since I am getting a significant amount of hate mail as well, and want to keep this a positive place.
Thanks for checking me out and I look forward to getting to know all of you and meeting new friends!
Jon
