It keeps boggling my mind how people have gone so far over the ledge that they are blaming themselves for one action in Minnesota, of which I cannot see any evidence that the cops there made the action based on race so far, but here we go as every corporation and organization has found the need to virtue signal harder than the last in order to self-flagellate.
The romance writers stunningly and boldly state:
That our authors from marginalized communities, especially our Black authors, have been treated as somehow less deserving of a seat at the table of publishing. We must admit and learn from this shameful past, while standing up for our goal and commitment to make the future better. We stand together in the fight against systemic racism.
I’m not sure what they did to black authors… but it sounds like the must have been pretty horrible! Note the lack of specifics as always with nonsense corporate remarks.
Of course, the answeris to relegate non-black writers to less than deserving of a seat, since the seats are now pulled out and given to blacks with their dues money:
- We invite all Black authors in RWA to attend our first online conference, to be held August 28-30, at no charge. This admission will include the recordings of the conference
- We will make 100 scholarships to our online conference available to non-member Black writers
- We are making it a priority to find new resources to add to our Diversity and Inclusion Resources page on our website
- We will direct our Academic Grants Committee to seek out Black academics studying romance to consider for RWA grants
Why would anyone pay dues into an org like this now when the money is going to be taken to never help you, but only to help members of one race?
Since Flying Sparks is a superhero romance comic, maybe I’ll apply for a scholarship.
