Twitter On A Suspension Roll And Becoming More Useless

June 11, 2020 by Jon Del Arroz Leave a Comment

I was pretty thrilled a couple of weeks ago, because a couple of days after the president made his remarks about threatening twitter, my account seemed to get dethrottled, meaning my posts were not getting seen by anyone but a select few, and almost no one outside of my follower network would ever see a tweet unless it broke a barrier where it was retweeted several times by people who weren’t throttled.

Only sparse memes ever got seen. It all changed though, and suddenly my posts were getting traction again, which followed by a big surge in new followers.

Then this week hit with all of the corporate cancer on full display — and online Karens going around cancelling anyone who doesn’t shout “black lives matter” while kneeling before black people as if they were gods.

I’ve tracked the last 7 days, and twitter has suspended more than 30 of my followers. They just disappear, and it has completely removed all of the gains I’ve had over this time period.

Moreover, whenever I post an outside link (like this one) it will not get seen by anyone unless it gets quote tweeted. I was talking to another author about this last night, and because of the way multiple clicks works — it means Twitter functionally drops the conversion rate of any article or book link or youtube video by 50%. It makes the platform 50% less effective for book selling.

I noted it’s stopped being fun a long time ago. It’s all angry people ready to cancel someone over one wrong word as it is. If it’s not going to be helpful for sales anymore (my tracking shows it’s declined severely in that space) there’s not much point to the site as there’s very little relationship building compared to what there used to be.

It might be time to just abandon the platform en masse. There doesn’t seem to be a solution.
