They Don’t Care About “Violence” Only Identity

January 7, 2021 by Jon Del Arroz Leave a Comment

In 2017, SFWA President Cat Rambo worked overdrive to destroy my career in science fiction publishing. I’d come out with an article demonstrating conclusively by the numbers that women don’t need a “leg up” in publishing, that the industry is dominated and controlled by women, and Rambo violated SFWA rules by using their account to promote a feud against me (which they had kicked someone out over doing this a couple of years prior), but moreover her very public tirade against me lying and trying to paint me as a bad person caused people to send REAL death threats to me, and for an unsolicited exploding package to be sent to my house.

I begged Ms. Rambo to please dial this down. I have little children. Some dislike of me over ideas in science fiction is NOT worth that and no one should advocate for it, or even be silent about something like that happening. In her position of authority at the Science Fiction Writers of America, she had an obligation to at least make some statement to protect the SAFETY of an American science fiction writer, in theory.

It never dialed down. I was rightfully scared for my family’s safety and pleaded the science fiction convention Worldcon to add security measures for the safety of authors like me.

Instead of doing the right thing, both SFWA and Worldcon made terrible public statements about me to try to further rile the science fiction author community up to harass me, something which has never gone away.

It’s never about truth. It’s never about some “condemnation of violence” with these people. It’s always about identity. I was a threat to their power as an indie writer and a minority who refuses to play their woke game, and I still am. That’s the reason this all transpired and they turned a blind eye to it.

If any of these sci-fi writers from SFWA are out beating a drum about politics pretending to be sanctimonious, remind them they support death threats and creepy mail being sent to a minority science fiction author to try to harm them. These are real terrorists and hateful, evil people. Some protesting folk taking selfies in the capitol are not.

I very much agree. The Left’s attitude is that violence in favor of their agenda is good, even noble; and violence that harms their agenda is evil. It’s all about raw, undiluted power, with zero ethical or moral restraints. I’m sorry you’ve been mistreated in such a disgusting fashion.
