I had a great day yesterday with Deus Vult. getting really close to 300 backers and $15,000. I also got an artist for my $15,000 stretch goal who is one of my favorite people in the entire industry. I can’t wait to reveal it to you .
But my enthusiasm was dampened when I overheard talk in my local comic shop. The owner of the shop was getting emails about how “terrible” I am. You could tell he really didn’t want to deal with it he was telling the person warning him “what if it’s not even the same Jon Del Arroz?” Which I appreciate.
If he reads this, obviously anything that’s said is BS. I’m a hard working family man who loves comics. That’s it. You should tell the person to buzz off, because this kind of thing leads to very, very bad things if it continues.
But the gist is clear – someone’s trying to harass this local business threatening them because I shop there and buy comic books. A small, local business is getting harassed over a transactional association. This is the world we are in in 2021.
The Republican Party is failing to protect citizens’ basic rights at this point. People are losing their jobs over being Republicans and it being known. People are losing friends, families, livelihoods. They’re going so far as to make it difficult for a person simply to exist, and that is where our system begins to break down. There is no free speech. You can’t even hold the views of one of the major political parties in public now.
I don’t know where this ends, but it’s going to get ugly. Don’t worry about me, I’ll keep fighting the good fight. But worry about local businesses. They need support from the corporate cancel culture now more than ever.
