The notorious firebrand, Alex Jones, has been kicked off many major “big tech” sites, including YouTube, Spotify, and Facebook. In September of 2018, he was kicked off Twitter (now X). In the meantime, Twitter was bought by Elon Musk and subsequently many unreasonably banned accounts have been restored. Yet Musk was not keen on reinstating Jones at the time.
A video of Jones pleading to be reinstated on X was widely circulated on Dec. 7, promoting his appearance on Tucker Carlson’s channel on X later that evening.
Jeremy Hambly, known as “The Quartering” on his YouTube channel, re-posted the video on X, tagging Elon, and said, “Think about how much letting Alex Jones BACK on X would make the machine rage @elonmusk. It’s time.”
Elon responded, “Will consider. In general, since this platform aspires to be the global town square, permanent bans should be extremely rare. Also, if he does say something false on this platform, then @CommunityNotes will correct him, whereas that would not be the case elsewhere. Let’s hold a poll.” Community notes was something that had been added since Elon’s takeover of the platform. The lack of such a feature may have encouraged his reluctance to restore Jones’s account previously.

Saturday, Elon Musk posted a poll on his X platform (formerly Twitter) indicating that he would reinstate Alex Jones on the platform based on the poll results. He has done this in the past with President Donald Trump. Alex stated in his video asking for support that this was a “referendum on free speech.”
In the video, Jones mentioned that his appearance on Tucker Carlson helped to get his case out in front of people on X.
Following the conclusion of the poll, in which almost 2 million users voted 70.1% Yes to 29.9% No, Elon Musk responded, “The people have spoken and so it shall be.” Alex Jones was then reinstated. Alex’s first new post was to retweet Andrew Tate welcoming him back to the platform:
He promptly went on X’s live audio broadcast platform, Spaces, with Elon Musk, Andrew Tate, Vivek Ramaswamy, and others. The interview was tuned into by 2.4 Million people on Dec 10.
They discussed an array of topics including globalism, futurism, and censorship.
