With the success of Spider-Man 2, and the hype for the upcoming Wolverine game, Insomniac Games has doors opening for them across the gaming community. Riding on praise from fans and media; they now have been left open to hackers and ransom. The Rhysida Gang, an international hacking group known for putting ransomware on governments, is saying Sony has seven days before a complete leak of Insomniac’s data sets are published.
The gang’s proof-of-hack data includes an annotated screenshot from the game and character art relating to other Marvel characters, suggesting information about the upcoming Wolverine game. Another private document is the property of Yuri Lowenthal, the voice actor who played Spider-Man in the latest version of the game.
Other documents featured as proof-of-hack material include internal emails, and signed, confidential documents. Currently running an auction on the data with a starting price of 50 bitcoins, or just over $2 million, Rhysida said on its leak site; “With just seven days on the clock, seize the opportunity to bid on exclusive, unique, and impressive data”[…]”Open your wallets and be ready to buy exclusive data. We sell only to one hand, no reselling; you will be the only owner!”
In a widely reported statement, a Sony spokesperson — which owns Insomniac Games — has said, “We are aware of reports that Insomniac Games has been the victim of a cyber security attack. We are currently investigating this situation. We have no reason to believe that any other SIE or Sony divisions have been impacted.” This claim has confirmed the hack.
Possibly due the leaks, Marvel’s Wolverine has been pushed back. According to media insider, Daniel Richtman, not only will the upcoming Wolverine game not be released in 2024, but it will also feature a “darker” and “more violent” tone than past games from the studio. The game features a God of War-like design, providing players with a larger area to explore and tackle missions. Regarding location, it’s set to be set in Madripoor, a Southeast-Asian city within the Marvel universe. While a release date has yet to be confirmed by Insomniac or Sony, one known thing is that Wolverine is in the same universe as the Spider-Man games from the studio.
Leaked documents from the ransomware attack could suggest that the developers are also working on a new Spider-Verse game, spotted by Reddit user /u/sut345. It’s already known that Insomniac is working on a multiplayer project, which has led fans to speculate that it could be the Spider-Verse project. “I wouldn’t be surprised if Insomniac’s multiplayer game is a Spider-Verse game where you get to create your Spider character. Full suit customization, select what powers you want,” said Reddit user /u/poklane.
While leaks are a major source of concern for Insomniac Games and Sony, the addition of a Spider-Verse game would be a huge deal for fans of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and the gaming world getting their own taste of the Spider-Verse phenomenon.

Bob Barker says
Why would leaks push back a game? It’s not like the hackers deleted the files from their servers. The game’s progress is still at the same state it was pre-hack.
