Mark Waid is going full rage cancel pig again on his Facebook page, this time blaming ComicsGate and “Alt-Right” trolls for alleged comments on a GoFundMe post after the embattled DC Comics writer drew criticism for threatening to burn down the comic industry during a discussion regarding fan-favorite writer Mark Millar’s proposed comic industry solutions.
Waid can’t seem to leave conservative-leaning fans or creators alone over the last few years, as he’s attacked reviewers, creators, and fans several times in online tirades, which has led him to quit social media—primarily Twitter—on more than one occasion.
His obsession with ComicsGate stems from 2017 when YouTuber Diversity & Comics attended Baltimore Comic-Con. The YouTube personality had posted several videos doing critical reviews of comics, often commenting on how identity politics got in the way of storytelling in Marvel and DC Comics books, which rattled the DC Comics wrtier.

“If anyone sees this gentleman or any of his friends, I need you to come find me and tell me immediately,” Mark Waid posted to Facebook. “Even if I’m on a panel, come up and interrupt. Please circulate this request as widely as you possibly can through all your social media accounts. Fellow pros, tell each other. This is about attempting to lessen the harassment of women in comics, and it is important. Please spread the word. Thank you.”
Mark Waid continued his attacks on ComicsGate and conservative creatives over the years, which came to another head last week after Mark Millar interviewed comic book retailer Glenn O’Leary. Waid was quick to attack right-leaning creators again, stating, “I think a lot of us would just rather see the industry burn down than ‘get together’ with the alt-right. I know I would. Sorry.”

His overreactions have caused trouble for his career, as it’s a well-known industry phenomenon that the DC Comics writer was prone to throwing tantrums in the office. Several creators talk about his time at Crossgen when Mark Waid allegedly put a fist through the wall during one of his tirades.
Now, Mark Waid is blaming a ComicsGate boogeyman by claiming the group is harassing his friend’s GoFundMe via comments on Waid’s Facebook wall. As of this writing, there are no such comments on his post, and Fandom Pulse has reached out to Mark Waid to ask for screenshots to provide receipts. He has not responded.
His new post, however, uses his friend’s disease as a shield to attack ComicsGate in a nasty manner. It’s tacky, to say the least, and it makes his complaints about ComicsGate’s online behavior look like something he pulled from his own mind.
He posted: “Earlier today, I posted a link to a GoFundMe supporting a woman long suffering from endometriosis and in dire need of surgery. If you missed it, I’m re-linking below. I could have limited comments and viewings to friends, but I thought it important to circulate the message as widely as possible.”
“It took the ComicsGate and Alt-Right trolls less than an hour to try to overrun the comments section with now-deleted hate about totally unrelated grievances.”
“I point this out to remind you how truly, bottomlessly awful these people are. If you think normal comics folks overreact to their tantrums, I will ask you to consider how sick and twisted and pathetic someone has to be to troll a post not about comics, not about politics, not even about me in any way, but about a desperate woman in constant pain from endometriosis who wants nothing more than to not suffer every day. What kind of grotesque, sad soul would pour hate into that thread, not for one second considering how hurtful it might be to this woman and her family, who I know will be following that post and its comments?
“These are the same professional victims who say the most despicable things imaginable and then scream bloody murder because “liberals” and “SJWs” aren’t willing to “see things their way” and give them a hug. They are a cancer on the industry, full stop. I want my tombstone to read “Fuck ComicsGate.”

The comments on this post are nasty attacks that don’t have to do with the GoFundMe, but it’s instead Mark Waid’s rabid fans attacking ComicsGate rather than the other way around.
One man claims the woman in need of the GoFundMe is his sister. Yet, he uses her disease to attack ComicsGate, stating, “FYI, this is my sister, and they have given me ONE MORE reason amongst many to love seeing their vile, disgusting, washed up racist and mysogynistic asses not getting work. Apologies for language, but I can’t think of a nicer way to refer to those pieces of human excrement.”
It appears as if Mark Waid and his whisper network are the aggressors making nasty comments on GoFundMe pages to attack their political rivals in the industry, rather than anyone going out of their way to act, as Waid describes. Vox Day once wrote that “SJWs Always Project,” and it seems to be the case with Waid’s terrible online behavior, using a woman’s actual disease to try to spread hate online.
