Todd Phillips’ dull yet award-winning odd Batmain Villain film is slated for a return when Joker 2: Folie à Deux is expected to be released in cinemas in October 2024. The film will feature Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role as the Joker and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. It appears from leaked on-set photos and the news that actors were recruited to play pastors and church members, that the Christian religion will play a role in the plot of the upcoming movie.

Lady Gaga is making her DC debut as Harley Quinn, and why not? After all, she already did sing a theme song for the Joker: “Can’t read my, can’t read my No, he can’t read my Joker face”. That would be a funny parody, but we do know that Joker 2: Folie à Deux will be a musical of sorts. “All I can say is there is going to be a lot of music. That’s all I can give away,” score composer Hildur Guðnadóttir stated in an interview with ComicBook.com.

The question is whether Lady Gaga’s singing will be enough to inspire Joker to become the charismatic and darkly humorous super-villain he was always meant to be instead of the self-pitying nihilistic millennial he was modeled after by Phillips.
It would appear not everyone is excited about the upcoming movie, though. X user Maddox tweeted: “Nobody is hyped for Joker 2”
Nothing is known about the plot yet, although there have been some clues, and when on-set photos and information about recruitment for the cast leaked, the speculation started.

X user Joker Folie News tweeted in French, translated: “The casting team for “Joker: Folie à Deux” recruited actors to play pastors and church members. During the 1980s, a large number of Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses emerged, along with televangelists who were corrupt. (+)”
The user added, “Will these events be addressed? Will we have the joker as the leader of a cult? It is worth remembering that we have already confirmed a registered actor playing a member of the Mormon church. #joker2”
“We have several tips spread throughout the set 👀 🔍 #Joker2 #joaquinphoenix #ladygaga,”” they also said.
It appears that Christianity will be part of the plot, whether in a major or a minor way and exactly how it will be worked into the plot, we will have to wait and see. It might be, as speculated by the X user, that Joaquin Phoenix becomes the leader of a cult.
Seeing how Hollywood is treating the Christian religion these days, the one safe bet would be to assume that Joker 2: Folie à Deux will not give a kind portrayal of Christianity.

I liked Joker. I thought it spoke some truths. We could have Joker 2 do that even more with a positive view of Christ and a negative view of other things. “Look, we tried your way. It stunk. Now I’m crazy, but I say we try the other way. You know this Christ guy.”
