The BBC Television program Doctor Who, beloved by millions for decades, has been on a slow, but rapidly escalation spiral down the toilet in the past decade or so. It continued further with the new Christmas Special, The Church On Ruby Road, premiering the new Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa.
While the titular character, known as ‘The Doctor,’ has been known for decades to go through ‘regeneration,’ and come out the other side as a person who is the same and different at the same time, the trend in the past decade or so has been to use the character as a tool to push identity politics.
Even back in the early 2000’s they were inserting LGBTQ messaging into the show, although at first this was mild. Then, in 2017, they had the character regenerate into the first ever iteration of the Doctor who was a woman, played by Jodie Whitaker. This, in and of itself, wouldn’t have ruined the show for most fans, if the producers hadn’t continued to push woke messaging.
Now, in 2023, with the 60th anniversary specials, they pulled out all the stops, featuring a trans-sexual actor playing the daughter of the returning character Donna Noble, having the 14th Doctor realize he’s gay, and then having the 15th Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa, wearing only his underpants below the waist, be ‘bi-generated’ out of the penis of the 15th Doctor. It seems, though, that the newest lows have not yet been reached.
In a clip from the Christmas Special, ‘The Church on Ruby Road,’ the 15th Doctor and his newest companion board a goblin ship to rescue a kidnapped baby, and the goblins are joyfully singing about chopping up and eating babies.
It’s clear that this is a nod to Labyrinth and the goblin king in that movie, Jareth, but just from the released clip it appears the producers are treating the eating of babies humorous which Labyrinth never did. After waiting and watching the show, one can see that the Doctor saves the baby, yet at the same time he treats the goblin threat to eat the baby as a joke, while at the same time the show indicates the threat is very real, so which is it?
At the same time, the Christmas special continues to push woke messaging, with the character of Ruby Sunday having a flamboyant trans friend, the Doctor himself going clubbing while dressed in a skirt (okay, maybe it was a Scottish kilt, but he acts effeminate in a way most Scottish kilt-wearers never would), and the character of Ruby, when described as a “foundling” then jokes that she was “foundled” as a child, in a clear pedophilia joke, which is anything but funny.
Then again, the current media moguls aren’t interested in humor. They’re interested in predictive programming, and getting the masses on board with pedophilia is their latest tick mark on their agenda. Show-runner Russell T. Davies recently indicated in an interview that he was seeking to upset fans, and it appears he wasn’t kidding.
What do you think of the direction Doctor Who is heading? Do you think eating babies should be a joke, or do you think that’s in very poor taste? Leave a comment and let us know.
