Star of the movie Saltburn, Jacob Elordi, says he was “really excited” when he read the bathtub scene in the movie Saltburn: “I was just really excited when I read that scene. Because… you don’t really see things like that in sort of mainstream movies… a lot of the time”, Elordi said of the scene showcasing queer degeneracy.

A short synopsis of Saltburn at IMBD says: “A student at Oxford University finds himself drawn into the world of a charming and aristocratic classmate, who invites him to his eccentric family’s sprawling estate for a summer never to be forgotten.” Saltburn stars Jacob Elordi as Felix Catton and Barry Keoghan as Oliver Quick.

A nauseating spectacle of queer degeneracy, Saltburn (directed by Emerald Fennell) immerses viewers in a relentless barrage of unsettling visuals or overtones and stomach-churning sexual deviancy. From nauseating scenes of consuming bodily fluids to an unrelenting atmosphere of disgust, Saltburn exploits queer degeneracy with graphic detail.

The plot, if one can focus long enough through the disgust, revolves around student Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi). Felix invites Oliver to his eccentric family’s sprawling estate, Saltburn. Only the twisted minds of Hollywood could have conceived such a revolting film and then released it to an unsuspecting public. Saltburn thrives on pushing boundaries, making it a nauseating experience that is best avoided.

Of the infamous bathtub scene with Jacob Elordi, Margot Robbie (one of the producers of the movie) says in an interview with Variety: “It didn’t feel that shocking in the script, because Emerald immerses you into a world so quickly. She’s so masterful at tone and plot; she gets you into it so quickly — you’re just immediately like, ‘I’m in this world.’ So by the time you get to something like the bathtub scene, she’s primed you for it. She’s got you. You’re, like, picking at a scab; you’re like, ‘I can’t help myself.’ Or like popping a pimple: ‘I know I shouldn’t squeeze but I’m gonna.’”

In the bathtub scene, which depicts queer degeneracy, Oliver spies on Felix (Jacob Elordi) masturbating in a bathtub, and then Oliver lustfully drinks the semen-laced bathwater as it drains. That is not the end of the degeneracy though, he later seduces Venetia and performs oral sex on her while she is menstruating. When a cousin of Felix (Jacob Elordi) witnesses this he tells Felix what he saw, but Oliver denies it when Felix confronts him. That night, Oliver seduces him, and threatens Felix’s cousin to behave.

As if to punctuate that Hollywood cannot stoop any lower than with Saltburn, there is a scene where Oliver mourns Felix and visits his grave, where gets naked and sexually grinds against the soil on the grave.
