According to Screen Rant Alien: Romulus follows “a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.” We don’t know much else about the plot. The short official trailer of Alien: Romulus doesn’t reveal much else either, and fans of the Alien franchise fears that Alien: Romulus will simply be a teen slasher movie set in space, with characters being picked off one by one. Not much is known about the Ripley replacement character either, but all bets are that she will be a bad parody of the original.
Alien: Romulus is directed by Fede Álvarez and stars Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu. The film is scheduled to be theatrically released on August 16 of this year.
Ridley Scott’s 1979 suspenseful and terrifying classic Alien, was a masterful blend movie genres. It started as a sci-fi film and gradually shifted into a horror film. Scott created a tense and claustrophobic atmosphere on the spaceship Nostromo, amplifying a sense of isolation and helplessness. The dimly lit, industrial sets added a unique and eerie visual aesthetic. Jerry Goldsmith’s haunting and atmospheric musical score played a crucial role in enhancing the film’s tension and horror elements.
The life cycle of the Xenomorph were unlike anything seen before in science fiction, contributing to the film’s distinct and unsettling visuals. The slow building tension, created a sense of unease and anticipation. Adding emotional weight to the horror elements was the fact that the characters were well developed, the audience actually cared about their fates.

Alien: Romulus on the other hand appears to be a dominated by the worn-out teen slasher trope. The classic ‘teens in gets picked off one by one’ except they’re now in space. And the slasher is extraterrestrial.
Fans will be hoping that the “new Ripley” will defeat the Xenomorph because she is as resourceful as the original Ripley was, and not just because of her “yay go-girl power”.
Will Alien: Romulus be another winner in the franchise that made “In space, no one can hear you scream,” or will it coin a new tagline: “In an empty cinema, no one can hear you cry.”
