Rumors Of A PS1 Metal Gear Solid Remake Start to Rumble As Konami Launches New ‘MGS: Delta’ For PlayStation 5

Rumors are swirling that Konami is secretly developing a full remake of the legendary stealth action game, Metal Gear Solid. According to inside sources at the Japanese developer, this remake will be a complete visual and gameplay overhaul built exclusively for next-generation consoles after the release of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta.

As a flagship PlayStation title back in 1998, Metal Gear Solid wowed players with its cinematic presentation and intricate espionage action. Directed and written by acclaimed game creator Hideo Kojima, it cemented him as an auteur of the industry. However, Kojima had a notorious falling out with Konami; leaving the future of Metal Gear uncertain for years.

While Konami has focused recently on the new chapter of Metal Gear Solid Delta, insiders suggest a full-scale Metal Gear Solid remake has been in the works for years. The company allegedly wants to re-establish the series’ glory for modern hardware. Rather than just a quick remaster, this remake could feature completely redone graphics, audio, mechanics, and potentially new story content. This seems to be following the usual trend for many large media companies to recycle their previous works; whether to deny a creator’s influence or to restart an ailing franchise.

The report comes from the Spanish site Areajugones, which has leaked accurate information before. Their sources state that Konami views this remake as a top priority after Delta launches. The company may see it as a chance to chart a new Metal Gear course sans Kojima.

Intriguingly, the remake is currently believed to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive. Considering Delta has been slated for Xbox and PC too, Konami restricting the remake to PS5 could be a major play for PlayStation fans’ nostalgia and goodwill. With this next year looking slim for PS5 exclusives, Konami could strategically launch the Metal Gear Solid remake in late 2024 or 2025 as a major event.

As for what fans can expect from this remake, expanded island areas, completely redone cutscenes and extra gameplay sequences helping to flesh out characters seem like strong possibilities. Additionally, updated controls and quality-of-life improvements tailored to modern sensibilities could be implemented.

Of course, with no official confirmation yet from Konami, this tantalizing remake may remain elusive. But during a time of major remakes and reboots, the prospect of revisiting Solid Snake’s first legendary mission completely reimagined could be an exciting experience awaiting PS5 owners. If the stars align, it could be the grand return Metal Gear fans have waited years for.
