Echo’s conclusion, which saw Kingpin undergo a transformation, courtesy of Maya’s connection to her ancestral power, hinting at a new direction for the character, fuelled speculation that Kingpin could be the new villain in the planned Spider-Man 4 movie. The post-credits scene in Marvel’s Echo shows Kingpin contemplating a mayoral run in New York City, setting the stage for a potential adaptation of a Marvel Comics storyline where Kingpin, as mayor, targets vigilantes.
The ever-expanding MCU narrative, extending across both film and TV platforms, has interconnected Disney+ TV shows with the cinematic universe, setting the stage for new character introductions and overarching storylines. Among the anticipated future MCU projects, Spider-Man 4 takes center stage, particularly following the multiverse upheaval witnessed in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The conclusion of Spider-Man: No Way Home left Peter Parker (Tom Holland) isolated and forgotten after the closure of the multiverse gates. This pivotal development opens the door to various narrative possibilities for Spider-Man 4, offering Marvel to return Spider-Man to his roots as a street-level hero. This transformation also paves the way for new villains to join the MCU’s roster, with strong speculations pointing towards Kingpin emerging as the next adversary, a notion gaining traction after the conclusion of the miniseries Echo.
Kingpin, portrayed by Vincent D’Onofrio, initially appeared in Netflix’s Daredevil, leaving fans uncertain about its MCU canon status. However, D’Onofrio’s reprisal of Kingpin in the Hawkeye TV series integrated him into the MCU, and he played a large role in the miniseries Echo.
Kingpin’s alignment with the mayoral storyline makes him a possible adversary for Spider-Man 4, especially considering the film’s potential return to the hero’s neighborhood-centric, street-level roots. A move by Marvel like this could help Spider-Man reconnect with his community and engage with a powerful street-level villain.
Spider-Man fans are really hoping for a long-awaited clash between Spider-Man and Venom on the big screen instead. The post-credits scene in Venom 2, involving the MCU’s integration of Eddie Brock and Venom, offered a setup for a crossover, but the logistics of such an encounter remain uncertain, with either Spider-Man having to enter Venom’s universe or vice versa.
More concerning for fans, though, is whether Spider-Man 4 will actually be about Spider-Man. Previously, in an interview with People, Tom Holland said: “I would love to see a future of Spider-Man that’s more diverse — maybe you have a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman.” He adds, “We’ve had three Spider-Mans in a row; we’ve all been the same. It’d be nice to see something different.”
Fans may well be disappointed again if Hollywood tries the tired Kathleen Kennedy method of “putting a chick in it and making it lame and gay.” Or worse – Hollywood tries to sell the fans Miles Morales as Spider-Man.
Let us know in the comments whether you believe that Spider-Man 4 deserves a villain other than Kingpin from Echo.
