Dynamite Entertainment has launched a Kickstarter campaign aimed at bringing back the Marvel Comics material from the first Gargoyles series, as well as the second and third series for the popular Disney cartoon’s comic runs. With over $75,000 raised and 32 days left to go, this campaign is shaping up to be a resounding success. Let’s explore the history of Gargoyles in the world of comics and the exciting prospects this Kickstarter initiative holds.
Nick Barrucci, Dynamite Entertainment’s head, expressed excitement about this groundbreaking announcement, emphasizing the company’s outstanding relationship with Disney. The realization that there was no comprehensive collection of the Marvel material from the initial Gargoyles series prompted Dynamite to propose a plan to Disney. The goal was not only to compile the Marvel issues for the first time but also to reissue the SLG collections in a more accessible standard size.

Barrucci highlighted the importance of reaching a wider audience and recognized Kickstarter as the perfect platform for engaging fans directly. With the approval and enthusiasm of Greg Weisman, the creator of Gargoyles, this initiative promises to be a win-win for both fans and the creators.
Posting to Facebook, Barrucci spoke to his followers, “We have an exciting new initiative, and asking everyone for a little support! Our first Dynamite Kickstarter with Disney just launched, and it’s with Gargoyles! For the 30th Anniversary, we’re collecting all of the Marvel series for the first time, and also the SLG series! It’s a GREAT 3 Volume set! If you can check out and support, that would be great, and if you can share and promote as well, I am really appreciative! It’s a great series of books and we want as many fans as possible to know about it!”

Dynamite Entertainment now stands as the third major publisher to venture into Gargoyles comic books, following in the footsteps of Marvel Comics and Slave Labor Graphics (SLG). Marvel’s initial Gargoyles series, spanning 11 issues, was released in 1995 and loosely set between the first two seasons of the animated TV show.
Following Marvel, SLG Publishing took the baton in 2006, releasing the “Clan Building” series until 2009. Unfortunately, certain issues, including Gargoyles #9-12 and Bad Guys #5-6, were never published as planned. These missing chapters, along with the entire SLG series, will now find a new lease on life through Dynamite’s Kickstarter initiative.
For the 30th anniversary of Gargoyles, Dynamite is presenting three volumes that compile all the previous tales. The first volume focuses on the 1995 Marvel series, and the second and third volumes cover the SLG Publishing era (2006-2009). Fans can choose from various options, including hardcover or paperback editions, with deluxe hardcovers featuring signed tip-in pages. The premium Gargoyles 30th Anniversary Premier Editions, limited to 1,000 copies each, add an extra layer of exclusivity.
Additionally, the Kickstarter offers lithograph prints of cover art, deluxe signed and remarqued giclée prints, facsimile editions of the first issue with gold or purple foil stamping, sketch cover options, and even commissioned original art by renowned artist Jae Lee.
Dynamite Entertainment’s Kickstarter initiative to republish Marvel’s Gargoyles comics has struck a chord with fans, evident from the campaign’s impressive funding. As the project unfolds, it not only revives cherished comic series but also celebrates the 30th anniversary of Gargoyles, offering fans a chance to own exclusive editions and immerse themselves in the magic of this iconic animated world.
