Bungie, the acclaimed video game developer behind hits like Halo and Destiny, recently posted intriguing job listings hinting at their next big project. The listings suggest the developer is incubating a stylized comedic multiplayer action game for multiple platforms including mobile. With their strong pedigree in competitive shooters and Destiny 2’s success, anticipation will be high for their next title.
Specifically, Bungie is searching for an Incubation Art Director to “define the look” of this new IP and “work on all aspects of art as the game moves from incubation through launch and beyond.”

Sony paid $3.6 billion to acquire the Destiny developer Bungie after Activision Blizzard was acquired by Microsoft, giving them the creative freedom to develop new worlds. In contrast to their usual science fiction fare, they appear determined to use their competitive multiplayer expertise on lighter concepts.
The style is described as “stylized” with “lighthearted and whimsical characters.” Competitive gaming familiarity is also desired, implying a multiplayer focus.
Another listing seeks a Senior Animation Engineer to “ensure that animation is smooth and competitively balanced” and help “players express their style through their in-game avatars.” With mentions of “animation budgets and performance goals across multiple platforms,” Bungie is likely targeting multiplayer next-gen consoles, PCs, and mobile devices.
Clans and extensive post-launch support are two examples of features that Bungie invented and are now industry standards. Because of its flawless shooting and frequent content updates, one of the few developers who can sustain a popular service-based multiplayer IP over many years is the Destiny developer.
The studio feels incubation of ideas outside Destiny and Halo benefits their culture and multiplayer base. Bungie’s expertise with co-op PvE and competitive PvP modes could translate well to a stylized comedy setting with broad appeal.
It will be exciting to see how Bungie applies lessons from developing Destiny 2 and its predecessors to this mysterious project. Their continued investment in mobile compatibility and next-gen consoles hints at ambitious technical goals. They likely recognize the soaring popularity of multiplayer games like Fortnite and seek to evolve in that direction while retaining its shooting pedigree.
For now, though, information is still limited. The project will gain speed as Bungie fills important leadership positions in the fields of engineering, animation, and art, leading to a polished vertical slice or full reveal. Even without significant marketing, the whole industry is aware that a Bungie game should never be taken lightly before release. When their new IP debuts, it might surprise both gamers and critics.
