Mike Baron’s Florida Man 2: Florida Man vs. Hogzilla Has More Excitement than Riding a Greased Pig!

Mike Baron’s Florida Man vs Hogzilla is what one gets if every weird news media press release about a “Florida Man,” and an episode of a tabloid television talk-show episode starring trailer-park rednecks had a forbidden love child! The art of Matthew Weldon, the inking of Marcello Salaza, and the lettering of Carlos Mangual help the story along.

The story starts with our hero, Gary Duba, being offered $10000 to travel to Mexico City and smuggling hundreds of red-kneed tarantulas back to the States in his luggage. Gary, of course, accepts the job because he needs the money, and the story gets even weirder from there!

His blushing bride, Krystal, goes on an alcohol and cocaine-fueled binge, goes to the supermarket, and proceeds to bludgeon the store manager with a lobster for refusing to let her use food stamps to purchase alcohol. This leads to a high-speed car chase where Krystal crashes her car into the Everglades and has a stand-off with the police while brandishing a lobster.

Meanwhile, Gary meets his contact in Mexico and smuggles his shipment of tarantulas in his luggage, only to have them escape into the plane and cause an emergency landing. Gary starts preparing to be arrested for smuggling when the whole plane explodes. A disgruntled individual with food allergies had written a manifesto against the airline for serving peanut products on their flights and planted a bomb. Luckily, everyone was saved after fleeing the plane from the emergency landing.

Mike Baron has woven a complex tapestry based on true news releases coming out of Florida into a hilarious store culminating in Gary’s stand-off against the dreaded Hogzilla, a thousand-pound pig, terrorizing the new owners of a mansion that Gary previously owned. Matthew Weldon‘s art brings to life the impossible-sounding storylines in this comic!
