Palworld is setting records on Steam with more than 8 million copies sold and over $200 million in sales. The popular monster taming and crafting game has taken the internet by storm in just over a week, setting records for independent game developers.

The developer and publisher of Palworld is PocketPair, a Japanese company specializing in crafting games. Palworld was announced in 2021, and many gaming fans were skeptical about the game’s potential for success.
Palworld has been anything but a disappointment for Steam users, with a “very favorable” 94% positive rating. Players have been purchasing the game at a rate exceeding 1 million per day. The game currently sells for $29.99 and does not currently have a micro transaction system.

Xbox players with a game pass subscription can access Palworld for free for a limited time. Game pass users don’t count towards game sales, and when the access ends, it’s unclear how many players will purchase the game. This move comes as a surprise, given that a Japanese company would target a primarily American audience with the Microsoft console.
The video game market has had a shortage of blockbuster hits recently, especially in the realm of PC gaming. It’s clear that gamers are eager for new content and are willing to shell out hard-earned money in large numbers for innovative software.
One thing is certain: players are flocking to Steam to play Palworld, and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight for this overnight sensation. Will Palworld someday rival other monster-catching and taming games? Only time will tell.
