The upcoming film from Paramount Studios “One Love” is based on the story of world-renowned superstar Bob Marley’s life. Starring Kingsley Ben-Adir, the British actor known for his recent roles in the Marvel series “Secret Invasion” and “Barbie”. Fellow British actress and James Bond star Lashana Lynch appears as Marley’s wife Rita in the film. With a star-studded cast, the stage is set for a mid-week date night showdown with the sci-fi action movie “Madame Web” for box office supremacy as the first major release of 2024.
“One Love” premiered in Jamaica on Jan 24th with stars and British royalty in the audience. The film is a stylized portrayal of Marley’s life, celebrating the music and activism. For nearly 20 years from the early 1960’s until his death at age 36 in 1981. Marley popularized Jamaican reggae and Caribbean music around the world after topping the Billboard charts in 1976.

“One Love” is produced by multiple people, including members of Bob Marley’s family and the company he founded with his wife Rita, “Tuff Gong”. The movie is being released alongside an EP studio album soundtrack featuring some of Marley’s most famous songs performed by top musical artists in reggae and related genres. Songs written by Marley have been covered for decades by everyone from Eric Clapton to Johnny Cash.
The film features important moments from Marley’s life, such as the December 3rd, 1976, assassination attempt at his Jamaican home by politically motivated gunmen. Marley scheduled a peace concert to help quell political violence in Kingston, resulting in the attempt on his life where he, his wife, and two others were wounded.
After a brief hospital stay, Marley permanently relocated to London. Marley also visited Rhodesia to help prevent violence and argue for the peaceful surrender of power from Ian Smith’s white minority government to the people of Zimbabwe.

Bob Marley promoted peace through music and fought for a pan-African ideology against colonialism and exploitation. This resonates today with his continued popularity after his posthumous album “Legend” maintained a position on the Billboard Top 200 for over 15 years straight.
Details of the film are limited, and it has not yet been rated for audiences. This is surprising with only a couple of weeks until release, but shouldn’t deter fans of Marley from getting popcorn and drinks for an evening of romance and entertainment.
Theater companies are hoping to boost ticket sales with a variety of promotions for the opening weekend. Anyone interested can purchase tickets ahead and guarantee seating in what is expected to be an exciting movie experience.
After the near collapse of the theater industry during the global pandemic studios and cinema companies are betting big that 2024 will help turn the tide of negative economic news and encourage moviegoers to dig deep and splurge for a Feburary blockbuster.
