A mob of Taylor Swift fans, backed by Biden’s white house, harass critics on X (formerly Twitter). Swift has threatened lawsuits against detractors using AI to generate photos poking fun at the singer, fueling the mobs’ rage. The woke political stunt by the singer’s fan club is just another push to limit the freedom of speech by conservatives using the multi-billionaire elite as a mouthpiece. Joe Biden dispatched his press secretary to threaten companies in a desperate political move attacking artificial intelligence.
The White House has issued a statement calling criticism of Swift “alarming.” A previously anonymous Twitter, whose identity and screen name have been spread online by “Swifties,” has been harassed into hiding as the multi-billionaire pop artists fan club. The X user shared explicit artificial intelligence images of Swift after her fans spammed football discussions with angry comments. The wave of trending Swift posts is a move reminiscent of the annoying “K-Pop” fan cam spam that once plagued the X app.

Shortly after the White House held the Swift press conference, X disabled the ability to search for the singer within the app. Many have seen this as a win for Swift when the real reason may be more nuanced. X has a long history of protecting the personal information of users. The woke mob is looking to get critics fired and humiliated into hiding, creating a situation commonly known as the “Streisand effect”. The radical with-hunt of any and all A.I. posts of Swift has led to a deluge of images now coming from all corners of the internet, with the nexus being the X app.
Some of the images posted have been explicit in nature and violate both X (formerly Twitter) rules and the code of conduct of the A.I. generation software. Before artificial intelligence, explicit Photoshop pictures of celebrities were pervasive online. Social media companies have always had a very quick response to limit the reach of sexual content to users and punish the accounts spreading them.
The photos commonly referred to as “deepfakes” are not illegal to create and share, and any attempt to regulate them may face harsh free speech obstacles. The Supreme Court has consistently ruled in favor of the right to create this sort of lewd fake photograph. Regulation may affect Hollywood and major publications as “airbrush,” and post-production work would also fall under any planned regulation.

There are countless posts calling for dox information on X. These accounts show a remarkable lack of self-awareness by claiming doxing is legal and ignoring the free speech implications of their outrageous indignation. For years, explicit statues and artwork of Donald Trump and other famous politicians have been largely celebrated by mainstream media, who comically shared the artwork and praised the creators. The longstanding policy has been to trust companies to regulate user-generated content on media platforms without holding the platform itself responsible for such media.
fury or not, as Swift becomes more political and intrudes on large audiences of football fans and uninterested communities, she will continue to draw criticism. Ultimately, this is likely nothing more than a political stunt by desperate Democrat strategists to protect a multi-billionaire agent who they need to spread propaganda in an election year.
