Ubisoft’s much-anticipated game, Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, is set to release in November and promises to be “the most enjoyable game in the franchise,” according to a reliable insider and official partner from Ubisoft. Following the release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which served as a “back to basics” spin-off, fans are eagerly awaiting the true evolution of the Assassin’s Creed franchise for the next generation.
Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, set in feudal Japan, is the first game in the series to be exclusively developed for the new generation of consoles. While there has been no official news from Ubisoft since the initial announcement, content creator and Ubisoft partner Bunny the Villain has revealed that the game will be unveiled this spring, with a release scheduled for November 2024.
Assassin’s Creed Codename Red is the first project from Ubisoft Quebec since the release of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in 2018. Meanwhile, Ubisoft Montreal is working on the next Assassin’s Creed game, codenamed Hexen, which is set in medieval Europe and is expected to be released in the following one or two years.
The insider also revealed that Assassin’s Creed Codename Red will feature two playable characters and other playable details. Fans have been speculating about the game’s features and mechanics, with many hoping for a return to the series’ stealth and parkour roots.
The previous games in the series, such as Valhalla, Odyssey, and Origins, received criticism for their enormous map sizes, an overwhelming number of icons and secondary missions, and RPG elements like level-based progression, which downplayed stealth, eliminations, and parkour. It is possible that Ubisoft has taken note of these complaints and will make the necessary adjustments in Assassin’s Creed Codename Red.
Another game set in Japan, Rise of the Ronin, is also in development and will be released before Assassin’s Creed Codename Red. Fans can expect to see more of Rise of the Ronin in this week’s State of Play. It also appears that work on the Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag remake began towards the end of the previous year. The Skull and Bones & Assassin’s Creed developers at Ubisoft Singapore moved to a new project called ‘Unannounced Assassin’s Creed Project’ in September 2023. This could possibly lead to a release of the AC: Black Flag remake around the time of the Codename Red reveal.
With its feudal Japan setting and potential return to the series’ stealth and parkour roots, fans have high expectations for this game. Ubisoft has yet to officially reveal details about the game, but with the reveal scheduled for this spring, fans won’t have to wait much longer to learn more.
