Hollywood embarks on a cancel culture feeding frenzy like rabid dogs with rumours that Abigail star Melissa Barrera might be cancelled next, shortly after The White Lotus cast Miloš Biković has been cancelled.
Abigail star Melissa Barrera is once again facing the prospect of cancellation by Hollywood for her social media posts about the Israeli-Gaza conflict. Melissa Barrera ‘s representatives at WME and Sugar23 are reportedly considering dropping her as a client.
Melissa Barrera, the In the Heights and Scream and Abigail star earlier this week posted a link in her Instagram bio that directed her followers to donate money to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.
The plea drew attention given recent allegations against the organisation. The U.S. and other countries have halted aid to the agency following claims that some UNRWA staff were involved in terror attacks.
Abigail star Melissa Barrera’s posts quickly spread across the industry and within WME, prompting discussions about terminating her. Sources say the agency and her management company Sugar23 were poised to drop the Abigail star Melissa Barrera as a client. But on Thursday, both decided to reverse course for now. WME and Sugar23 declined comment.
In November, Spyglass Media fired the Abigail star Melissa Barrera from Scream VII over similar posts. A Spyglass spokesperson claimed that Melissa Barrera calling for an end to genocide is equivalent to antisemitism and said: “Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”

At this month’s Sundance Film Festival, the Abigail star Melissa Barrera chanted the line “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” during a pro-Palestinian protest. Some organisations have called the slogan antisemitic and see it as a threat to Israel’s existence, despite Israeli politicians having used the “from the river to the sea” line since before the current conflict.
Despite concerns from insiders in the industry, Abigail star Melissa Barrera’s social media following has grown. It’s unclear if her upcoming project, Abigail, will be affected by the controversy.

The possible cancellation by Hollywood of Melissa Barrera follows hot on the heels of HBO’s removal of Miloš Biković from the cast of The White Lotus Season 3 after Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized his involvement. The foreign affairs office’s post on X (formerly Twitter) accused the Serbian actor and Russian citizen Miloš Biković of supporting Russia amid the ongoing conflict, questioning HBO’s decision to work with him.
“We have decided to part ways with Miloš Biković and the role will be recast,” stated an HBO spokesperson regarding the decision to axe Miloš Biković from The White Lotus.
In response, Miloš Biković issued a statement saying he will not bow to any narrative that seeks to compromise his integrity, “I grew up in a war-torn country. At the age of 11 I endured days and nights in shelters while my homeland and my hometown were bombed. And could never wish such devastation on anyone.
There are more and more active conflicts in the entire world. Each one is different. Each one is heartbreaking. I wish all of them to stop and principles of love to prevail.
Today, a targeted campaign has been unleashed against me, seemingly as an external maneuver to influence decisions that can create a disturbing precedent shadowing the essence of artistic freedom. The result of such a narrative is the triumph of absurdity and the defeat of art.
I was honored to be chosen to be a part of White Lotus, a TV series that I hold in high regard and with colleagues whom I deeply respect. However, my participation is not possible due to reasons beyond the realm of art and I will not bow to any narrative that seeks to compromise my integrity.
I would like to thank everyone who stood by me. I wish my colleagues great success in creating the next season.
Regardless of everything, I strongly believe that art can heal. I believe it can help humanity unite. My beliefs and my dedication to art will remain unchanged.”
Miloš Bikovićković, who obtained Russian citizenship in 2021, revealed in a 2019 interview with the Russian publication Telegraf that he has been banned from entering Ukraine.
Despite being announced as part of The White Lotus on Jan. 12, Miloš Biković will no longer be associated with the project. His previous acting credits include the Russian film Serf and the Serbian film South Wind.
