In two short months, Anime fans will get to see one of the new-gen shonen series finally make its debut on X. Kaiju No 8 follows Kafka Hibino, who has given up on his dream of joining the Defense Force to defend Japan from the kaiju threat. But unexpected circumstances cause Kafka to transform into Kaiju No. 8 as he’s given a second chance at life.

Kaiju No 8 is a fairly typical Shonen series, but the highlight here is that the main character is actually in his mid-30s and dealing with many of the same issues most men around that age have to deal with. Your body is getting flabby, not having the same energy as you used to, and seeing a younger generation come into its own and achieve things you thought impossible. While the manga screams battle shonen, the audience that it’s meant to appeal to is quite a bit older because of this.
Naoya Matsumoto is the author and artist behind Kaiju No 8 and so far has sold over 11,000,000 copies worldwide showing there’s an interest in shonen titles geared towards an older audience. Especially since the series has only been running in Shonen Jump since July 2020.

And one of the most exciting things about Kaiju No 8 finally getting it’s anime adaptation is that the series will be streaming in full on X starting in April!
This is a boon for anime fans who are outraged over Crunchyroll’s recent decision to terminate FUNimation streaming services, remove all purchased content from the service, and then jack up their prices after attempting to build a monopoly over anime streaming.
Instead of paying those greedy jackals who refuse to actually improve their own services, fans of Kaiju No 8 can watch the series for free worldwide on X!
Hopefully, X will be used as an outlet for future anime streaming titles, but for now, we’ll just have to get hyped for Kaiju No 8 in April!
