Millie Bobby Brown’s Stranger Things co-star Gaten Matarazzo said in an interview that the show could be better if it killed off more characters.
Stranger Things with Millie Bobby Brown and Gaten Matarazzo had a winning formula when it first hit the screens in 2016. And it wasn’t just Generation X that was enamoured with the nostalgic 80s aesthetic mixed with Stephen King-like eerie elements. It reminded everyone of a time when the world was a safer place, where kids would “disappear” for a whole day, playing board games with their friends or riding the streets with their bicycles. Stranger Things with Millie Bobby Brown and Gaten Matarazzo had muscle cars, school nerds, jocks, cool kids, loners, and pretty girls. Stranger Things had everyone reminiscing about their school years. Add to that the disappearance of a boy and his friends’ search for him, leading to their discovery of a mysterious girl with telekinetic powers who escaped from a mysterious facility, and might hold the key to preventing the fictional Indiana town of Hawkins from succumbing to impending doom, and Stranger Things with Millie Bobby Brown and Gaten Matarazzo was dynamite.

Stranger Things had fans screaming at the screen, “Can someone please just adopt that poor lost girl, give her a family, she desperately wants a mom to show her how to be ‘pretty.’” That was until the groomers at Hollywood decided to turn one of the characters, Will, into an insufferable poofter. The fans are still screaming at the screen, but they’re screaming, “Why can’t we have nice things?”
During a panel at MegaCon Orlando, Gaten Matarazzo, known for his role as Dustin Henderson, shared his thoughts on potential changes to the show. He expressed a desire for higher stakes, suggesting an increase in character deaths to amplify tension. Gaten Matarazzo emphasised, “This show would be so much better if the stakes were much higher, like, at any moment, any of these kids can kick it.”
The series has already witnessed significant character losses, notably Eddie Munson’s death and Max Mayfield’s brutalisation. However, the survival of core characters like Eleven, Mike, Lucas, and others, hints at Stranger Things with Millie Bobby Brown and Gaten Matarazzo playing it safe. Fan theories are circulating about who might survive the upcoming final season. Eduardo Franco, who portrayed Argyle, Jonathan’s close friend in Season 4, shared in an interview on the Steve Varley Show that he won’t be reprising his role in Season 5. Franco revealed, “I never got a phone call. So I think, yeah, I think that’s it.” Confirmed to return for the last chapter are Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, and the rest of the surviving cast.
Titled Chapter One: The Crawl, the final season of Stranger Things with Millie Bobby Brown and Gaten Matarazzo promises a shorter run than its predecessor, culminating in a “Return of the King-ish” ending described by David Harbour as “very, very moving.”
In an interview, Gaten Matarazzo said: “It might sound messed up, but we should kill more people. This show would be so much better if the stakes were much higher, like, at any moment, any of these kids can kick it. I feel like we’re all too safe.”

As production for Stranger Things Season 5 with Millie Bobby Brown and Gaten Matarazzo commences, speculation arises regarding the fate of Max, played by Sadie Sink. Recent set photos featuring Hawkins Hospital without Max raise questions about her character’s future. Sink’s absence from on-set sightings sparks concerns about Max’s survival, especially considering her precarious condition at the end of Season 4.
However, it’s essential to note that filming for the final season is still in its early stages, leaving room for various plot developments. While Sink’s absence may hint at a darker outcome for Max, the show’s creators have the freedom to steer Stranger Things in unexpected directions.
The Dark Herald says
Stranger Things has a serious cast-bloat problem. Robin was clearly meant to be Steve’s girlfriend, that was certainly how Maya Hawke was playing her during all but the last few minutes of her screen time on the show. You can spot just where Netflix DEI came in screaming “Make her lame and gay!”
Now Robin, the poor but smart girl, who would have been the PERFECT girlfriend for the rich but dim Steve, has no purpose in the show whatsoever and can’t be killed because of gay-plot-armor. Worse they have to give Robin a girlfriend who serves no purpose and can’t be killed either.
Thank god Millie-Bobbie Brown has quit the show, it needs to end.
