“Wednesday,” the hit Netflix series, has captured the hearts of viewers with its unique blend of horror and comedy. Starring Jenna Ortega as the eponymous character, the show has become the platform’s most successful English-language series. With a second season on the horizon and multiple spin-offs in development, fans can’t get enough of Wednesday Addams and her supernatural adventures at Nevermore Academy. However, a recent report has surfaced, casting doubt on the show’s future and Ortega’s continued involvement.
The report suggests that Wednesday could suffer the same fate as other Netflix properties, which have faced either premature cancellation or controversial recasts, such as Henry Cavill being replaced by Liam Hemsworth in “The Witcher.” A new rumor claims that a similar situation might be in store for “Wednesday,” with Jenna Ortega potentially being replaced.

Despite the rumors, Ortega is still set to return for “Wednesday” Season 2, which is slated to begin production soon. However, insider Matt Belloni has a pessimistic prediction about her future with the show. “I have a prediction on ‘Wednesday,'” Belloni begins. “I do not believe that Jenna Ortega will be on the show beyond the second season.”
Belloni’s guest on the episode, Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw, calls the prediction “a safe bet.” The conversation started after Belloni mentioned that Ortega made controversial comments about the first season of “Wednesday” during an interview on the Dax Shepard podcast.
“She basically said that the scripts were not good for ‘Wednesday,'” Belloni recalled. “Keep in mind, this is the most successful [English-language] show in the history of Netflix. She said that she had to come up with the famous TikTok dance scene. It was going to be a flash mob, but she vetoed it and said, ‘I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot down on a set the way I had to on Wednesday.’ Not great when your lead actress is sh***ing all over your very successful TV show.”

In an interview with E!’s red carpet pre-show at the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, Ortega revealed that she has received scripts for the new season. “What I can say… [is] we’re definitely leaning into a little bit more horror,” the Scream actress teased. “It’s really, really exciting because all throughout the show, Wednesday does need a bit of an arc, she never really changes, and that’s the wonderful thing about her. There’s some really, really good one-liners. And I think everything’s bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. I think each episode will probably feel a little bit like a movie, which is nice.“
Ortega also mentioned during Variety’s Actors on Actors that the second season of “Wednesday” will depart from romance. “We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more,” she said. “Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously.”
Fans can only hope that the second season has a smooth production and addresses the issues Ortega mentioned about the first season. With the show’s immense popularity and the potential for multiple spin-offs, “Wednesday” is sure to keep viewers entertained and intrigued for seasons to come.

I liked Netflix’s “Wednesday” because of Jenna Ortega. It was her portrayal of the main character that made the show watchable. Without her, it’s just a CW show and it will die as quickly as “The Witcher” did.
