Spider-Man Noir, an alternate version of Peter Parker from the Marvel Noir universe (Earth-90214), first appeared in “Spider-Man: Noir #1” (February 2009). Created by David Hine (co-writer), Fabrice Sapolsky (co-writer), Carmine Di Giandomenico (artist), and Marko Djurdjevic (costume design), this iteration of Spider-Man is set in New York City during the Great Depression in 1933. After being bitten by a venomous spider inside a spider-god idol, Peter Parker gains superhuman abilities similar to a spider and becomes the vigilante “the Spider-Man.”
In his noir-themed adventures, Spider-Man Noir fights against the criminal underworld of New York City, seeking vengeance for the deaths of his uncle Ben Parker and his mentor Ben Urich. Initially, Spider-Man Noir employs brutal and lethal force against his enemies, but he later grapples with the moral implications of his actions.

Since his introduction in the comics, Spider-Man Noir has appeared in various media adaptations. His first appearance in other media was in the 2010 video game “Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions,” where he was voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes. In the animated series “Ultimate Spider-Man,” he was voiced by actor Milo Ventimiglia. Actor Nicolas Cage voiced the character in the animated Spider-Verse films released in 2018 and 2023, with aspects of Cage’s portrayal later influencing the comic book version of the character.
Recently, there have been reports of a live-action Spider-Man Noir series in development for Amazon’s Prime Video, with Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage in talks to reprise his role from “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” The series is said to be set in 1930s New York City during the Great Depression, with Nicolas Cage potentially leading the cast. The show is expected to explore the Nicolas Cage character’s noir-themed adventures and could potentially expand on his backstory and universe.
Steven Lightfoot, known for his work on Marvel’s “The Punisher,” is attached as executive producer and co-showrunner for the series, alongside writer Oren Uziel. While details about the series are still emerging, Cage’s potential involvement has sparked speculation among fans about the direction of the show and how it will tie into the existing Spider-Man mythology. Lightfoot has said previously: “Right from when I was a kid, I was always a Spider-Man guy, and if the chance ever came to write anything Spider-Man related, my twelve year old self would never be happier. Though I have to say, having just seen Into the Spider-Verse, that’s a big bar to jump because I thought that movie was good. I thought it was a different level.”
Overall, the live-action Spider-Man Noir series represents a new chapter in the character’s journey, bringing his noir-themed adventures to life in a new medium. With the talent involved both in front of and behind the camera, fans are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to see Nicolas Cage in Spider-Man Noir’s gritty world unfold on the small screen.
