When fans of the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings learned that Amazon Prime Video would be making its own show, The Rings of Power, which was loosely based on the late author’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, there was much trepidation among the fandom. Amazon went out and spent over one billion dollars to acquire the rights to The Lord of the Rings but was unable to purchase the rights to any material from the time period that the show was set in. This left them making half-witted decisions, such as including Gandalf in the Second Age but not being able to call him “Gandalf,” as well as turning the quietly powerful and enchanting Galadriel into an insufferable girl-boss. Now, people involved with The Rings of power have been caught lying about the production.
Ratings for the show plummeted, with fans lambasting the show as a mockery and bastardization of Tolkien’s works. The cast and crew were quick to attack any critics of the show, labeling them as “bigots” and “racists” for having the audacity to speak out about this woke modernization. Season one lost viewership episode after episode, with the majority of those who began watching the show being unable to care enough to finish watching it.
Naturally, Amazon has been keeping a tight lid on what they have planned for their show’s sophomore season. While many people have speculated that there would be an attempt at retconning the failed first season, this seems incredibly unlikely. Instead, Director Charlotte Brändström recently went on to say that Season 2 will be “darker and edgier.”
“What I know and what I can say for a fact is that it’s going to be darker, and it’s going to be edgier and more character-driven. I still think that we have some very interesting episodes coming up. I watched all of them over Christmas, just the cuts. I think it’s going to be a very good season. We tried to make it more gritty, a little bit more dirty I guess. And not in the image, but to make it as authentic as possible. We have some very surprising twists and turns in it as well.”

Today, it has been revealed via the account Fellowship of Fans on Twitter/X that Amazon has been leaking false information to shills and scoopers alike. Fellowship of Fans released the following statement:
“FoF has been made aware of a long-term plan carried out over roughly the last 6 months by the production and team members of the Rings of Power to release and spread false rumors pertaining to season 2. Due to this revelation, FoF will be halting any releases of future reveals and scoops for the time being in order to undertake a full investigation to reevaluate and analyze our previous scoops and reveals for season 2 to see if we have misreported anything or released purposeful misinformation and get to the bottom of all this.”
“From what we understand this attempt was to catch people who were leaking in the crew and to make sure in future that outlets would be leaking out wrong information. We will get back to you guys in a few week’s time to update you if we have any updates from our investigation, which will include a list of the headlines/big scoops and reveals (from us and other outlets) that we can confirm are true and not misinformation.”

This is not a great look for Charlotte Brändström, the showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay, or Amazon as a whole. After making it their mission to destroy JRR Tolkien’s masterfully created world in their failed first season, it would seem that the decision to intentionally spread lies and misinformation is nothing more than a desperate attempt to stay one step ahead of their critics.
It’s truly a shame that Amazon didn’t have the common sense to simply hire people who actually cared about the works of Tolkien to begin with. There has seldom been a more impactful collection of writings than those of JRR Tolkien. Despite some disagreements about specific changes that were made in the film adaptations, most people genuinely loved Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. These films are among the greatest cinematic achievements of all time, being just as breathtaking to watch now as they were back in the early 2000s.
By comparison, The Rings of Power is a billion-dollar disaster that only shills and “modern audiences” seem to be able to stomach. Based on what we’ve seen so far, Season 2 does not look promising.

It’s like Amazon is trying to destroy this show, on purpose.

Take an IP with a built in fan base. Totally transform it into something it was never meant to be. Now act shocked when everyone rejects it.
