The Serpent Society, a Marvel team of serpent-themed super-villains, stirred speculation within the film community until last summer. Leaked set photos allegedly confirmed Serpent Society’s presence in Captain America: Brave New World, showcasing Seth Rollins as Klaus Voorhees/King Cobra and Rosa Salazar as Rachel Leighton/Diamondback, the leader of the Serpent Society. Shortly afterwards, Rollins confirmed his involvement in Captain America: Brave New World, with Asp, Bushmaster, and Constrictor speculated to round out the Serpent Society.
The Serpent Society, originating from Marvel Comics, emerged from the Serpent Squad and later evolved into Serpent Solutions. Introduced in Captain America #310 (October 1985) by Mark Gruenwald and Paul Neary, it was led by Sidewinder, operating as a supervillain consortium with snake-themed abilities. Later, Viper (Jordan Stryke) re-branded it as “Serpent Solutions,” opposing the new Captain America.
However, recent rumours from insider CWGST suggest that the villainous ensemble, Serpent Society, has been axed from Captain America: Brave New World following extensive rewrites by Matthew Orton. These revisions, rumoured to streamline the plot and revamp major fight sequences, could explain Serpent Society’s removal.
The decision to cut the Serpent Society may have been motivated by a desire to simplify the narrative of Captain America: Brave New World, as their intended role was relatively minor. They were slated to engage in a skirmish akin to Batroc’s appearance in The Winter Soldier and Crossbones’ in Civil War, serving The Leader and initiating the film’s plot.
Additional speculation surrounds the removal of Val, who was slated for a supporting role alongside President Ross. Allegedly, her exclusion resulted from Lee Sung Jin’s overhaul of the Thunderbolts script, indicating a potential clash between her role in Cap 4 and Jin’s vision for her arc in Thunderbolts.
Regarding the Captain America: Brave New World‘s plot, official details remain scarce. However, unofficial sources suggest a focus on Tiamut Island, a Celestial carcass containing valuable Adamantium. This resource has sparked international disputes, particularly with Wakanda’s Vibranium reserves inaccessible. Japan’s interest in Adamantium adds complexity to the geopolitical backdrop.
Originally, Captain America: Brave New World was poised to begin with an action-packed airport sequence featuring Sam, Joaquin, and Isaiah Bradley combating the Serpent Society. However, recent rumours hint at significant changes, including the removal of the villainous team and extensive re-shoots to refine the plot and action scenes.
Despite the Serpent Society’s potential removal, speculation persists regarding Rosa Salazar’s Diamondback, hinting at a possible expanded role. The team’s affiliation with The Leader and their mission to procure Adamantium would have tied into a broader narrative, possibly explored in the delayed Ironheart series.

Amidst the upheaval, the fate of other characters remains uncertain. Bucky’s rumoured cameo and the relationship between Cap 4 and Thunderbolts are shrouded in speculation, compounded by ongoing script revisions.
As for Thunderbolt Ross, his ascension to the presidency and transformation into the Red Hulk add intrigue to the story line. Conflicts with Sam, coupled with health issues, drive his character arc, culminating in a climactic showdown at the White House.
Controversy surrounds the portrayal of Sabra, a mutant CIA agent with Israeli heritage. Marvel Studios’ decision to distance the character from her comic book origins reflects a broader effort to navigate sensitive geopolitical issues.

In the midst of these developments, Sam’s personal life remains a point of stability, with Xosha Roquemore cast as Leila Taylor, his romantic interest from the comics.
