A former Sega employee has recently been teasing fans about a possible crossover between gaming giants Sega and Capcom. Capcom is no stranger to crossover games, having released iconic titles like Marvel vs. Capcom, SNK vs. Capcom, and the controversial Street Fighter x Tekken. The Japanese publisher has even lent its properties to the strategy RPG series Project x Zone and its sequel, which featured characters from Bandai Namco, Sega, and Capcom.
Now, it appears there may be another Sega and Capcom crossover in the works, according to former Sega character designer Satoshi Okano. Okano, known for his work on Sonic the Hedgehog games such as Sonic Jam and Sonic Adventure, formally left Sega in 2006 to establish his own studio. Despite no longer working at the iconic Sega company, Okano seems to be hinting at an upcoming collaboration between the two gaming titans.

The Sega and Capcom crossover tease began when Okano posted a “secret message” on Twitter, where he encouraged fans to enjoy playing Sonic the Hedgehog, Samba De Amigo (Sega properties), Street Fighter 6, and pre-order the upcoming Day One Xbox Game Pass game Kunitsu Gami: Path of the Goddesses (Capcom IPs). Okano stated he couldn’t reveal the reason for mentioning these specific titles yet, but promised it might be unveiled in the future.
In a follow-up tweet, Okano made a reference to the popular “Wait! Let him cook!” meme, including the #Capcom and #Sega hashtags, further fueling speculation among fans. The Sega and Capcom communities immediately began theorizing about what Okano was teasing, with the most popular guess being a Sega vs. Capcom crossover game โ an idea Okano later denied.
Other fan theories included avatar cosmetic DLC for Street Fighter 6 or a potential collaboration between the two companies for Capcom’s upcoming action RPG Kunitsu Gami: Path of the Goddesses. Okano’s coy responses to inquiries from fans only intensified the speculation, with the only consistent elements being 2024 and Capcom’s new IP.

While many gamers would undoubtedly love to see a Sega and Capcom crossover fighting game, fans should temper their expectations as these cryptic tweets could amount to nothing. For those craving a crossover fighter between the two iconic companies, there’s the non-profit Sega vs. Capcom fan game that pits Sega’s characters’ rosters against Capcom’s. The fan game’s first demo was released in January, featuring beloved icons like Sonic, Ryu, and Mega Man X, among others.
As the Sega and Capcom tease continues to swirl, fans eagerly await further information from Okano or an official announcement from the companies themselves. Whether it’s a full-fledged crossover game, DLC, or something else entirely, the potential collaboration between these two gaming giants is sure to excite fans of both Sega and Capcom’s rich histories and iconic franchises.
