More news from the Marvel Comics X-Offices as it’s been told to Fandom Pulse by an anonymous insider that Marvel approached Grant Morrison to return to the franchise only to get turned down by the legendary creator. After months of rumors of the X-Men reboot going woke under Tom Brevoort’s stewardship and with Gail Simone attached to one of the titles, it appears as if the top quality writers are souring on the prospect of working for the big two in the comic industry.
Grant Morrison’s run on the X-Men, which began in 2001 with the storyline “New X-Men,” is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and influential eras in the franchise’s history. Morrison’s approach to the X-Men was characterized by bold storytelling choices, a focus on character development, and a willingness to explore complex themes such as evolution, identity, and social issues.
In “New X-Men,” Morrison introduced several groundbreaking concepts and characters, including the mutant drug “Kick,” the mutant cure known as “The Cure,” and the enigmatic character Xorn. Morrison also revitalized classic X-Men villains like Magneto, reimagining them in new and unexpected ways. The series embraced a darker and more mature tone, reflecting Morrison’s penchant for exploring the psychological and philosophical implications of the mutant metaphor.
Critically, Morrison’s run on the X-Men received widespread acclaim for its fresh take on the characters and its thought-provoking storytelling. Fans and critics praised Morrison’s innovative approach to the X-Men mythos and his ability to introduce new ideas while honoring the franchise’s legacy. However, Morrison’s run was not without controversy, particularly regarding some of the drastic changes made to established characters and the philosophical complexity of the storylines. Despite this, Morrison’s X-Men run is often cited as a high point in the history of the X-Men comics and remains a favorite among many fans of the genre.
Meanwhile, in modern times, fans have not been thrilled with the outcome of Jonathan Hickman’s Krakoa era. The writer himself quit the X-Men series before much of the story came to fruition, leaving the book in the hands of the likes of Vita Ayala, a woke activist who pushes identity politics into Marvel and DC works.
Then, editor Tom Brevoort announced the relaunch, beginning with telling fans the message is the premise,” a threat that there would be more identity politics and leftist ideology forthcoming in the title. Fans also learned that female characters would lead both X-Men teams in a new M-She-U iteration of the books.
Tom Brevoort doubled down on his blog, accusing anti-woke fans of being disingenuous and calling critics “cretins” rather than listening to what comic readers want from the book—a return to the fun, action-adventure which built the characters many loved up until the modern era.
It’s no wonder Grant Morrison wouldn’t want to return to Marvel under these conditions. It’s said by the same insider that the X-Offices are a mess, and there’s a culture of fear surrounding the work there, with too many scared to lose their jobs if they spoke out against the current directions Marvel Comics was headed.
Grant Morrison and high-talent creatives need the freedom to do their best work, and increasingly, Marvel and DC Comics offer no creative room for true artists to flex their imaginations. With Grant Morrison allegedly turning down an offer to write X-Men, one can only imagine that Marvel is struggling with finding good talent across the board.

Eric should hire Grant to work on the Rippaverse.
Aoa says
If he can get a solid editor and good artist it would be great. If Eric could get Tomasi that’s 1 thing but the artist would be hard.

Wow…that says alot!

Wow…that says a lot!
Marvel and DC have lost the script
Gola says
Yeah he openly talked about why he doesn’t want to work there anymore and talked about how he disliked the direction they had. DC wanted to make Superman a dictator which he hated and he recently called out Snyder for wanting Batman to be a murderer. Morrison actually cares.
Xoao says
Grant Morrison should join the Rippaverse he’s a great writer, he cares about superheroes, and he’s not too political where he agrees with them on ruining characters. He needs to disown miller and the they them thing.
