Earlier today, Gail Simone tweeted with the hashtags #XMen and #FromTheAshes, echoing the teaser image posted by X-Men editor Tom Brevoort late last year. Hours later, Marvel Comics confirmed Gail Simone would be writing Uncanny X-Men, along with announcing the upcoming creative teams for the line.
The X-Men franchise has been embattled over the last several years with poor storylines and a complete mess in the Krakoa era ever since Jonathan Hickman left the titles to far less talented writers. Marvel Comics planned a reboot a few months ago under the stewardship of editor Tom Brevoort, who has already caused problems by disrespecting long-time fans and blocking readers he politically disagrees with on X. Now, on his newsletter, the Marvel Comics editor has doubled down to gaslight fans and confirm the new reboot will be filled with identity politics.
Warning signs have been clear for X-Men’s forthcoming reboot. Tom Brevoort teased changes with an image labeled “From The Ashes” before arguing with fans about what would come and telling them it would be a political book, saying, “the message is the premise.”
The X-Men editor doubled down on his remarks recently, calling critics of identity politics in Marvel Comics “cretins” rather than addressing the very real problems Marvel Comics has had with the woke agenda hurting sales over recent years.
Now, Gail Simone has been confirmed as writer for the Uncanny X-men series. Gail Simone is known for her feminist activism in comics, gaining fame initially by criticizing Ro Marz’s Green Lantern run where she popularized the term “fridging” in relation to Kyle Rainer’s girlfriend dying by getting stuffed in a fridge as a character growth moment.

Since then, Gail Simone has become a master of the online space, known for gently trolling on her Twitter / X profile. This has turned her into a powerhouse of clout in the comics industry with a substantial following. Her work on Secret Six, Wonder Woman, and Batgirl have been met with near-universal praise despite some of her political activism.
Fandom Pulse reached out to Gail Simone for comment on her Uncanny X-Men assignment but she has not replied as of this writing.
Gail Simone will be joined by artist David Marquez on the Uncanny X-Men title, who’s worked on mutant books in the past with All-New X-Men.
Jed McKay was announced as the writer for the X-Men title, joined by fan-favorite Venom artist Ryan Stegman on art.
The oddest announcement, however, was the announcement of a new book, Exceptional X-Men, which will be penned by Eve Ewing and drawn by Carmen Carnero. Fans reacted poorly on X to this announcement, as her involvement in the cringe-worthy comic Irornheart was one of the most hated by Marvel Comics fans in the recent decade.
Whether identity politics will be at the forefront of these series remains to be seen, but with editorial statements, the involvement of Eve Ewing, and the already announced female leads of the team character-wise, we are likely to see Marvel Comics dipping their toes into wokeism once more.
What do you think of the Gail Simone, Jed McKay and Eve Ewing announcement? Did Marvel Comics do well? Leave a comment and let us know.

Massive L they’re doing what they did before a X line with trash. Simone is an awful writer. I’m surprised they didn’t bring Claremont back is his contract with Marvel done?
Aolva says
They couldn’t get Grant Morrison I remember EVS saying Grant hated working at Marvel because of the staff behavior. Eric July should get Grant on Rippaverse next it would be such a massive W.
Rtimm says
EVS should hire her and Mark Waid

From the ashes.. better burnt to ashes.
X-man used to be my favorite… I can’t stomach what they are doing and done. I hope none supports them and they dwindle down to bankruptcy… maybe from the ashes of woke failure something better can come back
