A recent retail leak suggests that the highly anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake may be released in May, further fueling the excitement for Konami’s upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive.
After a series of missteps in the Silent Hill franchise, including the mediocre reception of The Short Message and the poorly received live service game Ascension, Konami’s Silent Hill 2 remake may be the second chance the company needs to prove itself. Despite limited information and a lack of gameplay footage, the Silent Hill 2 remake remains a highly anticipated title for the PlayStation 5, especially considering its 2024 release window.
Last week, the game’s appearance on the South Korean age rating website sparked renewed interest in the project, as such listings typically indicate an impending release. Now, a Mexican retailer has added further credibility to this claim by listing the Silent Hill 2 remake for a May 30 release date. While the listing could be a placeholder, the specific date, a Thursday, suggests that it could be the actual release day.
However, the retailer has since removed the date, leaving fans in a state of uncertainty. It is difficult to determine whether this change enhances or diminishes the likelihood of the initial date being accurate. Despite this confusion, the age rating listing provides solid evidence that the game is nearing its release.

While the Silent Hill 2 remake is the most prominent title in the franchise’s current development pipeline, it is not the only project in the works. Other games like Townfall by British developer No Code and the intriguing Silent Hill ƒ are also under development. The extent of these projects’ success will likely determine the future of the Silent Hill franchise, as it has historically been a cult classic with moderate sales.
The Konami original Silent Hill 2, released on PlayStation 2, managed to sell only around 1 million copies. This figure makes it challenging to predict the success of the remake, which may not be as popular as the Resident Evil remakes. However, the Silent Hill 2 remake’s PlayStation 5 exclusivity could potentially boost its sales and introduce the franchise to a new generation of gamers.
