The resurgence of the bots has ushered in a new campaign, this time dedicated to endorsing Disney’s board nominees for the Blackwell group. Departing from their previous activities of promoting movies or targeting individuals, the bots have pivoted towards advancing specific corporate interests within Disney’s governance structure. At the heart of this shift lies a proxy battle unfolding at Disney, pitting the company and its incumbent leadership, including Bob Iger, against activist investors like Nelson Peltz of the Trian Group. These investors seek board seats, advocating for strategic changes within Disney’s direction.

The Blackwell group, an existing supporter of Disney, has doubled down on its commitment by nominating its own candidates for the board. The bots, seemingly aligned with Blackwell’s interests, have flooded social media platforms with tweets extolling the virtues of Blackwell Capital’s nominees, positioning them as indispensable for Disney’s future success. MasteroftheTDS references a post on X by a certain Alexis lawery who posted: “Ensuring Disney’s future with Blackwell (s ) Capital’s expertise is essential for success.” MasteroftheTDS delves into the replies, which all read very similar to the post by Alexis lawery, for example this reply by Jordan Revita: “Securing Disney’s future with Blackwell (s) Capital expertise is crucial for success.”

Fandom Pulse did quick a perusal of Alexis lawery’s X feed and it would appear that Alexis lawery’s account is solely a promotional account. Here Alexis posts: “Research suggests Wegovy and Ozempic may reduce alcohol cravings in some users.” And another: “Creating folding houses could revolutionise construction industry for faster and efficient building.” The fascinating part of these posts are that they are all replied to using similar wording to the original post, such this reply by Isa Santiago: “Folding houses revolutionise construction for faster, efficient building methods.”

An objective analysis of Alexis’ account reveals X posts about disparate topics, always promoting some or other brand, followed by replies using similar wording and the EXACT same keywords, for example “Disney” and “Blackwells Capital” in the case of Alexis’ Disney post, or “Wegovy” and “Ozempic” in her post on those products. The same keywords are used because it influences the X algorithm and boosts visibility. The logical conclusion is that accounts like Alexis lawery’s are accounts paid to promote a certain narrative, the only question is whether these accounts are automated bots or operated manually.
MasteroftheTDS is quite right to point out that there is a concerted effort to drum up support for Blackwell Capital’s nominees, as evidenced by the engagement metrics of the tweets. MasteroftheTDS revealed that former Twitter employees and a confidential former Disney executive confirmed his suspicions of artificial promotion tactics and says that he will be doing ongoing investigations to find a paper trail to confirm Disney’s involvement in the bot-driven campaign.
