During a recent interview on CBC’s On The Coast, Chris Carter, the creator of The X-Files, hinted at a potential resurgence of the beloved series. According to reports from Bloody Disgusting, Carter revealed that Ryan Coogler, known for directing Creed and Black Panther, expressed interest in “remounting” the iconic science fiction–horror show.

Although Carter’s remarks were brief, they sparked speculation about the return of The X-Files. However, details surrounding the project remain sparse. It’s anticipated that any potential reboot would likely feature a new cast by Black Panther Director Ryan Coogler, possibly excluding the original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who portrayed FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively.

Originally airing for nine seasons from 1993 to 2002, The X-Files captivated audiences with its enigmatic and often paranormal story lines. Duchovny’s Mulder epitomised curiosity, delving into outlandish theories, while Anderson’s Scully provided a grounded, sceptical perspective.

The show’s popularity led to two feature films in 1998 and 2008, further solidifying its cultural impact. In 2016, The X-Files made a triumphant return for two additional seasons, attracting both longtime fans and a new generation of viewers.

Gillian Anderson, who portrayed Scully, recently expressed openness to reprising her role, particularly with Black Panther Director Ryan Coogler reportedly involved in the reboot. Anderson praised Black Panther Director Ryan Coogler’s abilities and suggested that his direction could offer a fresh take on the series. Gillian Anderson said: “I think [Ryan is] is really cool and it would probably be done incredibly well. And maybe I’ll pop in for a little something.”

Similarly, David Duchovny has hinted at the possibility of revisiting The X-Files universe, acknowledging the unresolved nature of the series’ conclusion in 2018. Duchovny’s remarks indicate that there may be more stories left to explore: “It seems like it was set up. I know nothing. I could lie to you and make it up, if you come to the concert tonight I’ll tell you the answer.”

Carter’s statement, albeit brief, included a disappointing yet expected quote about the potential for a more inclusive cast. “I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast,’ Carter said.” This quote underscores Hollywood’s lack of imagination and commitment to sacrificing beloved characters at the altar of diversity and inclusivity.

While Carter’s revelation about Black Panther Director Ryan Coogler’s interest in remounting The X-Files with a diversified cast has generated disappointment among fans, concrete details about the project are scarce. It remains uncertain when or if the revival will come to fruition. Nevertheless, the prospect of revisiting Mulder and Scully’s adventures continues to intrigue audiences hungry for more supernatural mysteries and government conspiracies.
