Uwe Boll Taking On Migrant Crisis In ‘Run’

Who will Run? Invader “migrants” or Europeans

Director Uwe Boll, known for his politically inclined films such as Stoic, Rampage, Darfur, Heart of America, Assault on Wall Street, and Auschwitz, has embarked on a new film project called Run, delving into the contentious topic of boat migration (more correctly termed “invasion”) from Africa to Europe. In an interview with Variety, Boll outlined his motivation behind tackling this subject matter.

Expressing his keen interest in political affairs, Uwe Boll highlighted the escalating issue of boat migration facilitated by smugglers, which according to Uwe Boll has become a lose-lose situation for both the affected communities and the migrants themselves. He emphasised the strain on communities tasked with accommodating migrants, lamenting a lack of support from politicians. Uwe Boll’s upcoming film Run aims to depict a single day in an Italian coastal town where a violent drama unfolds, serving as a microcosm of the broader issue and illustrating the potential for the situation to spiral out of control.

“In my films, I strive to shed light on pressing political issues that often go unaddressed,” remarked Boll. “The boat migration crisis is a significant and complex phenomenon that demands attention, and I aim to portray its impact with raw authenticity.” Considering this is Hollywood, one has to doubt whether Uwe Boll’s Run will authentically portray the rape, murder and assaults Europeans are subjected to by the invaders. If anything, it is more likely that Run will portray the invaders in a sympathetic light.

In selecting the cast for Run, Uwe Boll said that Amanda, James, and Ulrich were ideal choices for the challenging roles. He revealed that they were among the actors on his cast wish list and benefited from sharing the same agent, Michael Greene. Boll expressed optimism regarding Run‘s potential to attract attention from prestigious film festivals such as Venice or Toronto, citing the suitability of the entire cast, including Daniel Sauli, Kristen Renton, and Marcus Hendersen.

“For every film I create a cast wish list of possible actors and Amanda, James and Ulrich had the advantage that they were all on the list and that they are represented by the same agent, Michael Greene,” explained Boll. “From Daniel Sauli, Kristen Renton, Marcus Hendersen – all actors in the film fit perfectly and I hope with this great cast we have a chance to get into the Venice or Toronto Film Festivals in fall.”

Taking on multiple roles in the production, Boll served as writer, director, and producer of Run, while Michael Roesch assumed the role of executive producer and managed world sales through Kinostar, based in Stuttgart. Collaborating with familiar faces from previous projects, Uwe Boll enlisted Mathias Neumann as the director of photography, Boris Velican as the line producer, and Ethan Maniquis as the editor. Post-production for the film Run will be conducted at Tunnel Post in Santa Monica.

“Crafting Run has been a challenging yet rewarding endeavour,” said Boll. “I’m proud to work alongside talented individuals who share my dedication to bringing important stories to the forefront of cinema.”

Prior to commencing principal photography for Run in Croatia, Boll is scheduled to attend the German premiere of First Shift at the Karlsruhe Independent Days International Film Festival on April 10. He will also participate in a special Q&A session as part of the festival program.
