In the realm of comic book adaptations, a new challenger steps into the ring. Brace yourselves, because One-Punch Man is gearing up for its live-action debut, courtesy of Sony Pictures. Dan Harmon, the brains behind Rick & Morty will be writing the script with Justin Lin in the director’s chair. You might know him from his work on the Fast and Furious franchise. Now, Justin Lin is taking on the challenge of bringing Saitama’s world to life on the big screen.
But Justin Lin is not alone in this venture. Justin Lin has enlisted the controversial Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell to whip the script into shape. Dan Harmon, the brains behind Rick & Morty, has been in the news in the past for all the wrong reasons. In 2009 Dan Harmon made a “parody” video in which he simulates raping a baby doll. There was also allegations of a video where Dan Harmon had let a baby touch his crotch. In 2018 Rick & Morty’s Dan Harmon again made the news, this time for sexual harassment. And Campbell? She’s a far left virtue signalling harpy, who said that she cancelled her Tesla order because of Elon Musk’s Twitter. Campbell, who became part of the writing team for the Adult Swim series in its sixth season, went on Elon Musk’s platform on December 12th to reveal her cancellation. She posted a screenshot of her customer support inquiry, humorously stating, “They wanted a reason, so I said ‘Elon Musk’s Twitter.'”

Fans are concerned about whether the live action version will honour the source material, and one can’t blame them considering Hollywood’s disregard for source material when it comes to live action adaptations. One-Punch Man (Wanpanman) originated as a Japanese web comic, manga, and anime series crafted by the creative genius known as ONE. Its web comic inception occurred in July 2009, swiftly capturing the attention of audiences. By June 2012, it had already garnered over 7.9 million total views, with a daily readership surpassing 20,000—an impressive feat by any measure. As of October 2022, its popularity had soared to remarkable heights, boasting a staggering 186 million views.
Recognising the undeniable allure of this burgeoning series, Sheuisha’s Young Jump Next seized the opportunity to expand its reach. They not only picked up the series but also enlisted the talents of Yusuke Murata, renowned for his work on Eyeshield 21. Murata was tasked with visually bringing the series to life, collaborating closely with ONE to ensure that the essence of the original narrative remained intact. Together, they embarked on a journey that would captivate audiences worldwide, solidifying One-Punch Man as a cultural phenomenon. It tells the story of Saitama, a superhero who can defeat any opponent with a single punch but seeks to find a worthy opponent after growing bored by a lack of challenge due to his overwhelming strength.
Sony Pictures have got Avi Arad and Ari Arad of Arad Productions backing the project. And with Justin Lin, Rick & Morty‘s Harmon, and Campbell at the helm, there’s serious doubt about how the live action adaptation will turn out:
Let us know in the comments what you think about a live action adaptation of One-Punch Man, and whether you believe Sony and Justin Lin would do justice to the characters.

People need to quit pretending that the pipeline of print to screen to live action is a natural & desirable progression. Mediums differ.
And that is before you add in the IP strip mining of Clown World.

Thank you! Agreed they ruined One Piece but because that success they’re going to go double time with this. There’s so many more adaptions into hollyweird we should fear Made In Abyss, Naruto, Hellsing, My Hero Academia, Sword Art Online, just to name a few.

Another Great IP on Clown World’s Chopping Block.
