The Fun Pimps announced recently that their game “7 Days to Die” will finally be officially released and leaving Early Access. This is significant because the game has been in Early Access on Steam since December 13th, 2013.
7 Days to Die is an open-world survival game in a post-apocalyptic zombie world. Your main goal is to gather supplies and resources to defend against a massive zombie horde that comes every seven days. Each subsequent horde gets more difficult to fend off, so you must continually improve your base and abilities, as well as build or discover new traps and firearms.
The game has attracted a strong following over the years being a staple among many popular game streamers and gaming channels. The running joke among many streamers was that this game was always in perpetual Early Access on Steam. And it was warranted, given that it’s been nearly 12 years since its initial Alpha release.

The official release is set to be supported on PC via Steam and on PS5 and XBox Series X/S consoles. However, only the Alpha builds will be supported on Steam, and the console versions will only support the official releases.
According to their announcement, The Fun Pimps also plan to support old Alpha builds on Steam, provided Steam allows older versions to be supported. This is usually the case with Steam, where you can downgrade your games to previously published versions, although this is not a simple process.

The official release of 7 Days to Die is set to be released to PC in June of 2024, with console releases scheduled to be released in July of 2024. They also included a roadmap of planned features to be released throughout next year.
It certainly is quite a feat to dedicate over a decade of your time to developing a game while getting customer feedback. The Fun Pimps seem to care more about quality than officially releasing a less-than-complete game that subsequently requires tons of patches and DLCs to make it playable again. With the official release coming to consoles, it should be interesting to see how their player base expands.
