What Is The Duty Of An Artist?

June 3, 2019 by Jon Del Arroz Leave a Comment

I keep seeing the same things in mainstream entertainment whether it’s comics, movies, books, music, anything. Resist Drumpf! Diversity and Inclusivity (except for men and conservatives)! Sexualize your children!

It’s the same thing over and over and over. All artists in the corporate pop entertainment industry say roughly the same thing. And that’s how you know they’re not real artists.

A real artist doesn’t just produce crap for corporate applause. That’s the same sort of slavery as an office job in a cubicle. If the corporations are pushing the message, you know you’re on the wrong track, especially if you’re trying to do something independent and different than the herd.

Real creativity comes from taking risks, risks that in this day and age will make the entire industry turn against you and blacklist you. It’s not being “apolitical” either – that’s a trap a lot of people get into that’s forced by the corporate structure to try to make it so they have no real opposition to their Narrative. The apolitical means you’re not willing to stand for what you believe in.

But instead, true artistry is promoting truth, justice, and the American way. It’s something we haven’t seen in a long time, but some of us are starting to rebel from this awful, tired system where artists are repressed with tacit threats to our livelihoods.

Because of independent releasing, we have an opportunity to create something great, do something different. We don’t have to bow to them, they can’t tell us what to write. They can’t tell us what to think. And it’s a beautiful thing.

If you like bucking the narrative, come read my books with a STRONG MALE LEAD in The Steam Knight. Full trilogy out now! The First is only 99 cents! Buy today!
