We’ve seen a whole new push by establishment comic artists and writers to try to denounce a consumer revolt against Marvel and DC products, which is largely due to a crowd anger against forced political correctness and extreme left wing ideology forced into the comic industry. As anyone who has read this blog over the last two years has seen, the political elements from the left have reached proportions we never could have even dreamed when I first started writing about the topic.
It’s so tribal now, the establishment is showing their true colors. Instead of quietly blacklsting, big name pencilers like Mike Deodato Jr. are now openly advocating the blacklisting of his conservative counterparts in the industry. They’re growing more desperate among the elites. They’ll make wild claims as to the reasons why, echoing Hillary Clinton’s epic rant in the 2016 campaign (racist, sexist, homophobic!) to where you can almost play bingo with the words. It makes it clear by the sheer volume and the exact wording used that this is directed, and I await the day where we see the company emails that tell these people to do this.
Perhaps they think it’s a PR move to save their dying industry, but what it does is gets more fans angry. Deodato doesn’t understand that when he posts gleeful rants about how he’s thrilled fellow professional, family man, and mild-mannered artist Mike S. Miller is removed from a convention over what appears to be politics, he looks like a bully trying to hurt a smaller artist to most of the outside world. Audiences don’t like bullies.
All this is coming after word that IDW’s 3rd Quarter Reports are disastrous for the company, a crazy thing with all of the big properties they represent (star trek, ghostbusters and more), and rumors that Marvel is in even worse shape for the year. It comes down to the business is losing customers, and they’re very obviously going to these high-profile indiegogos by conservative and moderate artists who are revolting against the system and doing their own thing.
DC is getting particularly desperate, as mentioned above, as it’s come out that Batman has a new “mature audiences” line. In this line DC wanted to show how “edgy” they are — and they are doing it to get attention whether negative or positive for gimmick sales, so in some way I am giving them what they want — but in this book they push the boundaries so far into porn that it’s no wonder readers don’t want to check this out when they see superhero books.
There’s a scene in the book where batman literally shakes off his clothes for two pages, and it climaxes with a graphic picture of the Bat-Schlong. There’s no need for this story wise as it’s just a scene of him in the bat cave…. and by the picture it looks like batman, while he’s crime fighting and entering what would probably be a very cold cave, appears to be very aroused.
It’s a disgusting use of a children’s character and it shows that DC is really just in this to push hyper-sexualized degeneracy as we all have been talking about for a long time. They have no moral compass that aligns with readers. Batman as you know him for all intents and purposes is dead.
These companies can’t compete with just their base stories. They don’t have any to tell because the people they hire are nihilists and anti-American. They can’t manage American Mythos from this perspective because that is not a perspective of the people.
They’re only going to lash out more. No “proof” of anyone’s “social goodness” is going to do anything for these people. It boggles my mind some in the resistance side are trying to do this. This is a scared industry lashing out at the consumers because they’ve failed, and they know it. Act accordingly and support indie comics.
You can support my new project The Ember War, which is an adaptation of another indie novel by Richard Fox. We’ve been paving the way in comics and books to make a change in the culture, to bring it back to fun, heroic adventures. The Ember War is fun and is something you can share with your family (not too young of children cuz aliens are scary!). Check it out here.

Jon,
At some point the businessmen within Disney (for Marvel) and the DC counterparts will come in and read the riot act. They’ll cull entire departments and quietly blacklist the more problematic pros.
As Richard from Diversity and comics points out that Joe’s attacks on the Comicgate creators is to distract the utterly catastrophic numbers for Marvel.
I bet that Ivers will personally go to Marvel and personally ream out the creators and fire on the spot that super woke with the proviso that they leave the country to find work because in the U.S. they’re permanently banned
I read the Mike’s tiwtter feed and I was offended by the histronic sanctimony from some commentators about words matter and you brought this on yourself yadad yaddda yadda.
No words only have matter supersitiously if you’re not a woke creator.
I hope Mike goes after both that cosplayer and the convention for damages
xavier.

I saw the panel with the Bat-dong. It was actually as tasteful as a picture of Batman’s wang could be . . . but seemed kind of gratuitous. Like, why? Why Batman? Why not create new characters for an unrated, no holds barred, censorship-free comics imprint?
I wonder how over the top the stories and language will be in this line of books. I have my doubts they’re going to go full 1970s, no sacred cows, offended everyone and everything under the sun. This is DC, it’s the 21st century, and one wrong joke or turn of phrase can get you fired.
But maybe we’ll finally get the answers to such age-old questions, like: when Superman is having relations with Lois, will that prove fatal at the terminal moment? We’ll see.

Alex,
It’s this teen emo pretentiousness by 40 year olds to be edg with an estalished character.. Seriously, these childless weirdos simply don’t know how to human.
Here’s a challenge do an epic pulp story involving the Joker and Cat woman. Make it a nailbiter story with a happy ending (Bruce actually settles down with Selina after she’s done some time in the slammer and have a big family of 10 kids)
I’m a sucker for happy endings but at least it’s a starting point
Alex says
Happy endings would be nice. But characters whose stories will never end are never allowed happy endings.
I agree a Bat-Cock is an odd choice, and does smack of forced edginess. Seems like a bizarre thing to do with a cultural institution like Batman. Perhaps that’s the exact reason why we have The Dark Knight’s Member in a comic book.
I totally want to call this #CockmicsGate until someone thinks of a better term.
Alex says
I mean, at least the Bat-Schlong isn’t as gratuitous as the band Death Grips’ album cover for “NO LOVE DEEP WEB.” (Seriously, do NOT look that up).
