I’ve done a lot of work on youtube lately highlighting how clickbait impacts people and trying to urge my audience to stop clicking on it.
Only by shifting messaging to something positive are we going to make any real culture change, even if it seems like beating our heads against the wall constantly.
The next step is another hard one — not reacting with instinctual basic outrage.
What it does is creates a lack of empathy for someone on the other side, who might be coming from a position for a certain reason. The outrage mechanism is what leads people like Dan Slott to read a news story, then start going ##@%& you f you’re voting for trump!
But we can be better about that as people and as a culture and start treating people like humans.
When you feel the reaction coming, try to pause yourself and think “where is this other person coming from? Is there a reason they could be holding an opinion I find outrageous?”
If we can get to that point as a society, we can really change things.
For now, back Dynamite Thor. It’s been canceled and deplatformed by almost every outrage youtube merchant out there. The comic industry really doesn’t want you to discover my great books. Back here:
