The ComicsGate Assault On Books

April 15, 2020 by Jon Del Arroz Leave a Comment

What an absolutely crazy day yesterday.

I launched my campaign for the epic new book, Robotoad: Rekt Manlet, an excellent story about a robot monster kidnapping a beautiful woman, leaving our protagonist to have to rescue a damsel in distress. Instant Classic!

But the nutjobs in ComicsGate couldn’t allow this book to be seen by potential readers.

They know their YouTuber friends can’t compete with great storylines by a REAL writer, who puts a focus on quality storytelling into his craft. Look at their track records:

Cyberfrog: a trainwreck with no story

Jawbreakers: a trainwreck with a nonsensical story

Graveyard Shift: a trainwreck that wasn’t even fun

Lonestar: a trainwreck with heavy political messaging

And all of these books took over a year to make. Absurd!

Comics can’t survive as a “once a year and a half for 48 pages” medium. It’s about pulp stories, stories that are fun and can give the reader an escape from dreariness.

None of ComicsGate’s “pros” delivered on that promise.

Only I have been able to come out with monthly books like a real professional, and to do so with stories that make sense, have real characters with depth who can be related to, have plots that tell FULL STORIES in a single issue while building overall world, and make comics great again like DC and Marvel used to have when they had real talent like Tom DeFalco and Chuck Dixon.

When they can’t win, they cheat.

And so on the first day of my campaign, ComicsGate tried to stop the signal.

  • They flagged my facebook posts so I couldn’t post the link to my campaign, falsely listing my comic book link as “abusive content”
  • They flagged my twitter and got my account suspended
  • They flagged my YouTube live stream promoting the comic and got it taken down

They’re trying to deplatform me everywhere. Ethan Van Sciver himself even showed up in my chat under a well-known alias and kept calling me “liar” on repeat — and I was just talking about my comic book and how to write a comic story!

It drives them crazy to see me, a person who had never released a comic before a couple of years ago, outperforming all of them in storycraft, making the comics they claimed they would, but failed to.

They can’t let people see the books — because if they do, people will do as they always do when they read my books — and LOVE them. It would be too big of a blow to their fragile, REKT MANLET egos.

Which is why you should read Rekt Manlet — back the campaign today. Send a signal that you are not about them silencing other comic creators because they’ve consumed so much soy they literally can’t even.

And help get the word out. Share the campaign on your social media. It’s been suppressed so far and needs you!

Back today.
