The latest controversy surrounding cancel pigs, who came after Mark Millar for defending a comic book retailer, took another twist when comic book commentator Comics By Perch slammed woke comic creators at Marvel and DC for creating bland villains.
Mark Millar commented on the video in a tweet: “This video by @ComicPerch is perfect. When I tell pals Cancel Pigs equate the actions of a villain with the TRUE VIEWS of a writer, like Stan Lee siding with Dr Doom, they don’t believe me. There’s a light shining on these goons now & they look very silly.”

In the video, Comics By Perch laments the downgrading of comic book villains to mere jokes, which he ascribes to the quippiness of woke Marvel and DC creators. Another major concern he points out is how generic Marvel and DC’s villains have become.
It is hard to disagree with Comics By Perch that Marvel and DC’s supervillains have devolved into milquetoast “butt of jokes by quippy woke superheroes” that “loves to punch ‘Nazis” in the face.”
Comics By Perch also correctly points out the trend of deconstructing villains, the latest woke shtick of portraying villains as “actually good people that just happened to go astray. They’re just misunderstood by you simpletons, don’t you see?”
So they write a Joker who sounds like a teen with existential angst, enough to make any guy think, “what a loser,” and girls recoil in horror with an “ew, eww, just eww.”
Which leaves one asking, where are the truly diabolical supervillains Comics By Perch reminds us about? For a hero to be a SUPER hero, he needs a truly diabolical nemesis to overcome, not some “butt of the joke” villain or generic interchangeable villains.
When even a self-described “traditionally left of centre and progressive” creator like Mark Millar complains about the state of Marvel and DC creators, you know that the woke comics industry is in trouble.
Fortunately, the big two no longer monopolize the comics market. Independent creators are rising to the occasion, eschewing the woke trend of bland villains to give us the diabolical supervillains we crave and the non-woke superheroes to fight them.
Publishing the Legendary Chuck Dixon (creator of Bane), Stonetoss, Jon Del Arroz, and Vox Day, to name a few, Arkhaven leads the pack and provides a platform for independent creators. From their “About Us” page: “Arkhaven will publish comic books and develop games and produce movies that represent creative people bringing original projects to life, and that connect people around creative projects and the creative process.”
Best of all, you can even read some of the comics for free on their Arktoons page.
