Within a week of reporting a successful breach of Insomniac Games’ stolen data, the ransomware group Rhysida made over 1.3 million files available for download on the internet. On Monday night, the group revealed that no buyer was prepared to pay the $2 million asking price, leading to the leak. The data is almost 1.7 terabytes in size overall.
From game release dates and spoilers for the next Wolverine game to, regrettably, sensitive employee information, a lot of information was exposed during the Insomniac hack. Information about internal employee HR documents, taxes, internal company messages, computer information, termination forms, and even passport details are among the sensitive data that was first made public by Cyber Daily. A large portion of the reported material is contained in the files.

“Yeah, we knew who we were attacking,” a Rhysida representative wrote Cyber Daily in an email. “We anticipated that developers creating such games would be a simple target.” The spokesperson claims, “We were able to get the domain administrator within 20–25 minutes of hacking the network,” suggesting that there were not many problems with the hack itself. Regarding Sony’s investigation into the incident, which commenced as soon as the hack was discovered, Rhysida offers some advice. “Sony has launched an investigation, but it would be better in the backyard,” the spokesperson said.
Finally, Rhysida declared that money was the only reason behind the attack.

Along with the aforementioned Wolverine game, a contract between Sony and Marvel for creating and releasing X-Men games has also been leaked in the data. With effect from July 2021, the agreement was signed by Jim Ryan of Sony and Isaac Perlmutter of Marvel. The deal extends to three X-Men games in total. The public announcement of the other four games is still pending.
For FY2029, a new Ratchet and Clank game is planned; FY2030 gets an X-Men game; FY2025, a Venom game; and for FY2028, Spider-Man 3. Fandom Pulse has contacted Sony and Insomniac Games for comments on the leaks. As of this writing, no one has replied.
