Disney finds itself entangled in a web of controversies, with recent upheavals in its Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The upheaval not only involves the removal of Jonathan Majors, set to play Kang, as the primary antagonist, but now the replacement of Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot in What If…? Season 2, adding another layer of public relations challenges for the entertainment giant.
The abrupt departure of Jonathan Majors, who was set to play Kang the Conqueror, comes on the heels of his conviction for assault and harassment of his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. Disney swiftly responded, officially severing ties with Majors. The decision leaves fans in suspense, wondering how Marvel Studios plans to rework its storyline, as Kang was positioned as a central figure in the unfolding Multiverse Saga.

This shake-up follows earlier reports that screenwriter Jeff Loveness, assigned to write Kang Dynasty, has departed from Marvel. While the official direction of Avengers 5 (formerly Kang Dynasty) remains uncertain, insiders suggest a significant pivot from the initially planned Kang-centric narrative.
In addition, Vin Diesel, renowned for his roles in the Fast and Furious franchise and as the voice of Groot, faces a legal storm. Accused of sexual battery by his former assistant, Asta Jonasson, during the 2010 production of Fast Five, Diesel’s legal battle has escalated, bringing unwanted attention to the star. His exclusion as the voice of Groot in What If…? Season 2 adds another layer to the unfolding drama. The casting of Fred Tatasciore as the new voice actor for Groot marks a departure from Diesel’s long-standing association with the character.
Diesel vehemently denies the allegations through his attorney, Bryan Freedman, stating, “Vin Diesel categorically denies this claim in its entirety. This is the first he has ever heard about this more than 13-year-old claim made by a purportedly nine-day employee. There is clear evidence which completely refutes these outlandish allegations.”
Amidst the controversies, there’s a glimmer of continuity as Elizabeth Olsen reprises her role as Scarlett Witch in What If…? Season 2. Her return offers some stability to the MCU, reminding fans of the talented ensemble still contributing to the vast Marvel universe.
These dual controversies pose challenging questions for Disney. As they navigate the aftermath of Majors’ dismissal and Diesel’s legal battles, the future of the MCU hangs in the balance. The abrupt changes in key roles and storylines force Marvel Studios to rethink its strategy and adapt swiftly to maintain the integrity of its cinematic universe.
The developments surrounding Avengers 5, now sans the Kang branding, and the replacement of Groot’s iconic voice, create an air of unease among fans. Disney faces the delicate task of addressing these PR challenges while assuring audiences that the magic of the MCU remains intact.
As the Multiverse Saga unfolds, only time will reveal the lasting impact of these controversies on the MCU.

Weird that they waited until Major’s was CONVICTED before severing ties with him, but just the allegation was enough for them to sever ties with Diesel. Hmmm. What’s the difference between these two men? I can’t quite put my finger on it…
