Studio Trigger released some official Dungeon Meshi artwork on their account, and this has caused small segments of the X user base to lash out. What exactly was it they were overreacting to? This of course:
To a normal onlooker, nothing is wrong with this image. It is well-drawn promotional material for the anime. The character depicted in the image is Dungeon Meshi’s resident elf girl, Marcille Donato. She is pretty, and her design fits the anime’s wholesome atmosphere. That image of hers is tame by anime standards. It is pretty clear those hurling accusations at Studio Trigger are very unfamiliar with their work.

This is the anime studio behind Kill La Kill and Darling in the Franxx, and their most recent hit is the Cyberpunk 2077 anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. When you compare Dungeon Meshi to previous offerings, Dungeon Meshi is way out of the norm for what one would expect Studio Trigger to animate. So, knowing all of this, how exactly did these naysayers react to the wholesome Delicious in Dungeon? UNHINGED.
X user “ggreeencake” claims it’s some sort of fanservice pinup.
Another account “coolranch @ bg3” (at senyagf) seems bit confused:
Completely unhinged “Straggot” seem to have not seen the show:
One has to wonder if all three tweets are from the same person running multiple sock puppet accounts because they seem to share a common theme. All three lambast Trigger while threatening physical harm to the studio. These three, or possibly that one person, better have been off Japanese soil when they made those threats, because Japan doesn’t take threats towards anime studios lightly anymore. The Kyoto Animation Arson Attack still looms in people’s minds as a stark reminder of what unhinged “fans” are capable of. The final verdict for the Kyoani Arsonist is set to be announced on January 25th of this year.

Therefore, it is no surprise anime fans have taken to X to defend Studio Trigger from the verbal attacks. One user noted that Dungeon Meshi and Studio Trigger were not the problem here. The only ones causing trouble were those going after Studio Trigger for posting an innocent image of an elf girl lying on the ground.
Another user made a similar assessment.

This user’s sarcasm is also right on the money. Definitely not normal.
And as always, this notice…
… for Japanese users made the rounds on X again. It will never stop being used, because some Western users feel the need to make anime their personal punching bags.
The oddest thing about this incident about Dungeon Meshi is that a wholesome anime was accused of being perverted. It would have made sense if the anime in question was ecchi, but it was not. X tends to have this view that all anime is hentai. That is why it makes sense that Studio Trigger defenders considered the attackers to be porn obsessed. If the only thing you know anime for is the hentai, then it stands to reason that you’ve only experienced Japanese animation through its animated porn. This is a classic tale of projection. The hentai obsessed have only themselves to blame. Finding innocent things perverted sounds like the kind of thing only a pervert can accomplish.

I call those tourists. And I bet these tourists of Anime, probably carry bad stuff.
Figgy McGee says
That’s ridiculous. And I’m one of those who is sometimes made uncomfortable by the aggressive sexualization of females young in appearance in anime. But this? This is nothing. It’s a girl in full, modest clothing lying down. That’s as tame as it gets!
