Fans of Nerdrotic’s weekly geek culture podcast got an unexpected surprise, as guest Benny Johnson brought on former Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to Friday Night Tights. Ramaswamy joined the show to talk about the campaign trail and demasculinization in popular culture and the M-She-U.
Johnson introduced Ramaswamy to the Friday Night Tights panel: “You are on the number one nerd podcast on a Friday night, on this channel, at this time. This time, let me do an introduction. You ran a campaign that was very social media and culture-based, and you were willing to go to boxing matches with Jake Paul, you are willing to hop on TikTok and go jet ski and do whatever, and so this is like the cultural epicenter of YouTube. Every nerd channel and every cultural, Hollywood-based, cultural commentary and critique channel, the biggest ones on YouTube, are live right now in this room.”
Ramaswamy called his time on the campaign trail fun. “It was a fun campaign to be honest with you. I think that I tend to be best at things, I think most of us are, when we’re having fun along the way. I’d say about eighty percent of it was a lot of fun, and there’s the twenty percent that feels like a sharp poke in the eye, but that’s part of the cost of doing business if you’re running for President.”
1/4 Black Garrett then asked Vivek Ramaswamy what he thinks of the M-She-U, the new female-dominated era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The former Presidential candidate minced no words on what he saw as the ultimate problem. “The demasculinization of everything in our culture, kind of what we teach young boys as part of the message: shut up, sit down and do what you’re told. I don’t think we need to be doing that.”
He continued, “I’m biased maybe. I’m the father of two sons, and I cringe at what the culture tries to force feed them about masculinity or being a man, but you know what? I think that that pendulum is swung a certain direction. I think people are sick of it. Everybody who has sons as well, I think a lot of them, quietly feel the same way, including my wife and a lot of women. Others would feel the same way about not actually whipping young boys into submission out of a culture that drains it out of them.”
Vivek explained how politics has infested popular culture, like the M-She-U, by likening the consumption of media to trying on different articles of clothing. If there is something you enjoy viewing you keep on viewing it. If you don’t, you “put it back on the rack” just like clothing. He says that politics is different. Politics is burning the clothes rather than placing them back on the rack. With Disney continuously burning cash on M-She-U failure after failure, this comparison seems especially relevant.
Before leaving, Vivek Ramaswamy opened the door to future appearances on Friday Night Tights, and hinted towards a potential future guest appearance from Elon Musk. “One of the things that Elon told me, you know I didn’t know him before the race but we’ve gotten to be pretty friendly through this, is I think he said it a couple of times to me. Whatever’s the most likely outcome isn’t the most rational outcome. The most likely outcome is the one that’s most entertaining.”
We were definitely entertained by a former Presidential candidate taking time off the campaign trail to speak to fans of Friday Night Tights and call out the woke M-She-U for what it is. What do you think? Was Vivek Ramaswamy’s appearance too close to politics for your tastes? Are you a fan of the original direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or do you prefer the M-She-U? Who would you like to see on future episodes of Friday Night Tights? Leave a comment down below and let us know what you think.
