“Doccy Who” Trends On X As Fans Make Their Own Fun In The Cringe Ncuti Gatwa Doctor Who Era

With all the recent controversies around Doctor Who, it’s no wonder fandom is looking for something to latch onto. Ncuti Gatwa’s tenure in just one episode with The Church on Ruby Road has left viewers cringing. Initial numbers are some of the lowest ratings for a new doctor in history, and word companion actress Millie Gibson is already exiting the show. It’s a bad start to 2024, but fans are focused on something else entirely: Doccy Who.

After a rush of new content toward the end of 2023 and excitement because David Tennant would be returning to the role of the Doctor for three 60th Anniversary specials, fans couldn’t help but be let down. The first episode featuring Tennant pulled a bait and switch with a new transgender BIPOC character they named “Rose” just to stick a middle finger to the fandom. The entire episode was spent lecturing viewers on how this “Rose” was such a beautiful girl as if we were supposed to believe the character was anything more than a man in a dress.

Then there’s the continuity-shaking fact that David Tennant returned as The Doctor, regenerating out of Jody Whittaker in a nonsensical take. Showrunner and writer Russell T. Davies didn’t even make a genuine attempt to explain it other than some vagueries about how David Tennant needed to be there. It went further insulting to fans as it introduced “Bi-Generation,” which is a punny play on words for bisexuality, leaving David Tennant to be a separate Doctor from what became Ncuti Gatwa.

And let’s not forget the race-swap of real historical figures like Sir Isaac Newton.

From Ncuti Gatwa to Millie Gibson to Russell T. Davies, everyone associated with the show has been smug in interviews, claiming the new show would upset fans, that it would be controversial, and that it would focus on leftist politics. This is well-known and bodes ill for the upcoming season premiering in spring.

With Doctor Who ceasing to be entertainment and becoming pure agenda, fans are putting it upon themselves to make it into fun. Enter: Doccy Who.

It’s unclear where Doccy Who originated, but fans have been repeating it on X to the point where the term was trending overnight. It’s a playful way to cover the new Doctor Who, which is a dumbed-down, childish version of the show with its political tantrums disguised as episodes.

One account, @TARDIStime, made logos referencing several classic Doctor Who eras as Doccy Who.

What made the term trend is another user complaining about it, saying, “Doctor Who fan for over 50 years. I’m no gatekeeper but cutesy “fans” who call it Doccy Who can fuck right off.”

Another user went completely unhinged, attacking someone using Doccy Who in a reply with, “You, sir, are a fool, a nincompoop, a dander and a goon. Doccy Who is demeaning, childish (not childlike) and smacks of sheer foolhardiness. Can you imagine any of the Doctors standing for such nonsense? I certainly can’t. Now, go and sit in a corner and think about your actions.”

Doccy Who appears to be upsetting all the right people and looks to be in good fun, something the current Doctor Who show is not.

What do you think about Doccy Who? Is it a good way to mock Ncuti Gatwa and the current Doctor Who direction? Leave a comment and let us know.
