Stellar Blade,” an action RPG developed by Shift Up, is almost here. Originally slated for a 2023 release, the PS5-exclusive futuristic game will debut on April 26, as revealed during Sony’s inaugural State of Play event for 2024.
Players assume the role of Eve, a warrior from the seventh airborne squad, in the game, which was developed under the working title “Project Eve.” Eve returns to Earth to battle the Naytibas, enigmatic and hideous adversaries. Alongside Adam and Lily, two other survivors, she aims to annihilate the Naytibas and save Xion, the final human city.

All the news over Stellar Blade on social media is reminding the gaming public of when a former Shift Up developer claimed she was forced out of the studio due to her feminist beliefs, taking to Twitter to urge a boycott of Stellar Blade. The developer alleged she faced harassment and that another female employee was dismissed for being a feminist.
Investigating the matter revealed the ex-developer’s shirt links to the Megalia group. Megalia, also known as Daughters of Megalia, is a radical feminist group criticized for its misandrist views. The group believes women are superior to men and has called for violence against critics. Megalia websites also post and promote pictures of men with their genitalia cut off. One popular post urges women to get an abortion if their child is a boy.
The group, claiming to fight for equality, has justified these actions by citing misogyny. Criticism from the public has been met with threats, and Megalia has expanded its targets to homosexuals, outing their sexual orientation on a new site called WOMAD.

Boycotts from the Korean public have occurred when censorship is an issue, and companies avoid associating with the Megalia group. Nexon previously fired an actress linked to Megalia due to fan protests, a decision widely supported in Korea but criticized in Western media.
Shift Up, the emerging Korean developer behind horny mobile hit Goddess of Victory: NIKKE and the upcoming PS5 exclusive Stellar Blade has signed a contract to become one of Sony’s second-party partners. According to a translated GameChosun article, the studio and the platform holder signed a contract in November 2023.
The Korean media industry may have its flaws, often sexualizing women and enforcing strict beauty standards. However, the solution isn’t associating with groups like Megalia, which promotes division. Western media should refrain from hasty judgments, especially considering the way men are now portrayed.
Stellar Blade will be available for pre-order on the PlayStation Store and retail partners starting February 7 at 10 AM ET. The Digital Deluxe version, costing $80, unlocks additional costumes, experience points, and in-game currency. The standard version costs $70. The pre-order trailer for the game is available below.
