At the Rippaverse Megacon panel in Orlando, Eric July announced an addition to the Rippaverse, which will delight fans with the return of a familiar creative team in Chuck Dixon and Joe Bennett. This time, the dynamic duo is unleashed to create their own hero who hasn’t appeared in prior Rippaverse comics, a brand-new concept titled The Horseman.
Eric July has been teasing a major Rippaverse announcement over the course of the week on both his YouTube channel and his X account. Fans will be happy to know the beloved creative team is back in action again.
The Horseman announcement comes off the heels of Alphacore #1’s highly successful campaign. The book closed at over $1.3 million in sales from over 13,000 different backers. Reviews for the book were overwhelmingly positive, with creators like Chuck Dixon and Joe Bennett on board.

Chuck Dixon is best known for his work in the Batman universe by co-creating the villain Bane with Graham Nolan, as well as having definitive runs on Robin and Nightwing. DC Comics canceled Chuck Dixon because of his outspoken conservative politics, which left fans angry with the company losing his expertise in storytelling.
Joe Bennett has done classic work on Birds of Prey for DC Comics but is best known for his Immortal Hulk run, which is some of the best work on the character in modern Marvel history. Cancel culture came for Joe Bennett also, because of his support of Brazilian President Bolsanaro. He has subsequently been backlisted from mainstream comics.
Eric July has taken great stands against cancel culture by bringing these two comic book geniuses on board the Rippaverse, and now, after success with Alphacore, they get to make a creation of their own.
At the Rippaverse Megacon panel in Orlando, Eric July announced they would have a new book, Horseman. This was followed by Rippaverse Comics posting a video to X regarding the project with Chuck Dixon talking about the book.
Horseman promises to be a street-level action book, which is Chuck Dixon’s wheelhouse and forte. The character has some similar design elements to Nightwing which fans have noted, and the book promises to be a welcome addition to the Rippaverse.
Horseman is set to release in the summer of 2024 as the Chuck Dixon and Joe Bennett pairing continues with great books released with regularity.

I’m excited to see the new title! Dixon and Bennett absolutely knocked it out of the park with Alphacore #1, and I can’t wait to see this new hero cleaning up the streets of Florespark! Hail the Rippaverse!

You can tell an iconic character right away, and this ain’t it. At best, the design looks like a cross between Azbats and Nightwing. It uses Batman’s colours, obviously. At worst, it looks like a mess—is the mask supposed to look like a horse? Why, was he bitten by a radioactive horse? I presume the vibe is supposed to be a chess knight (he was riffing “Dark Knight—get it?) but that yellow thing sticking up between his ears looks fucking ridiculous.
Dixon was good back in the day, but he’s seventy now and he ain’t innovating shit. He’s just rehashing better characters, badly, and this mess already looks out of date.
I hope Eric brings in new writers, someone who actually gets the Batman vibe as it should be.

Nah going to put a hard pass on this one. His fanbase has made up stuff to support him, he’s posted clearly edited photos to support his comics. He also can’t shut up about Marvel and DC (both of which have no issues with his comic) like hating on them should be the only reason to by any of Eric’s comics. If he ever decides to just involve things without going after others and encouraging his community to dox and troll folks, then maybe I will change my mind. Yes he has been approached to about it. Eric does know how such behavior can hurt his sales, but he said he doesn’t care. Which told me beyond doubt he doesn’t care about his fans, just his pocketbook.
